When visting the taj, you can look behind it across a river and see the foundation of what some say was to be the mirror image of white taj. the white one was for the wife and the black one was to be for the husband, but when he died, their son decided to stop construction and both are now in rest in the white taj. is this true? was there ever to be a black taj mahal?

theres lots of theories, and nobody is really sure. u can see a brick wall that dates back to the time of the taj, but nobody knows what it was for. some say it was a hindu temple, others say that it was the black taj. the story u refer to is the most popular, and is generally accepted as the truth. however, its not entirely accurate. the wife died, and then the son overthrew his father and imprisoned him, and as a result any plans the father had for a black taj never happened. when the husband died, the son had him interred in the taj mahal to avoid spending money on any other place of burial.

If you like romance then you will love the story and history behind it.

Shah Jahan was an emperor married to his beloved wife Mumatz. She died during childbirth so in her memory he decided to build her the beautiful Taj Mahal purely made of marble.

Anyway upon finishing, he tried to build the 2nd Taj Mahal across the river made from pure black marble but he was locked in the Fort. I think he was trying to build the 'his n hers' of a palace. Whilst imprisoned all he could do was look out the fort at this splending palace he had built.

I love this story and there is so much more about it - like that the emperor was actually a cruel and murderous man but his wife changed him and his final act of love was this.
He truly loved that woman and it makes me feel so good!

Yes, but some people think when the lake in front of the Taj reflects the building, this is the "Black Taj Mahal." I do not belive this, though.

Yes - however there was a rebellion, and the the husband was imprisoned in the Taj Mahal and work on the second wasn't started.

Just goes to show, be careful how you spend peoples' tax money.

There was actually a black taj, but it was a reflection of the current taj in a marble pool of some sort. when the reflection was viewed, it looked black.
