999 is equal to 1 is the relative magnitude of 1 is set to 3. so when that happens 999~1000 and 1 *10^3 = 1000 therefore 999 = 1 with a relative magnitude of 3.

I Think what you mean is that Decimal 999 = 1 (0.999 = 1)
The answer is simple and hard to see at the same time
As you know, 1/3 is 0.333333333
and 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 = 1 (3/3)
but
2/3 = 0.666666666666
then why is
3/3 = 0.99999999999999
when it should be 1, there is no correct answer but the one that satisfies the most people is that since there is no ending to 1/3 = 0.3333333333 these 3's goes infinite, then if you sum the infinites 3 in the decimal places by itself 3 times it should result 1
3 * 0.333333333333333(infinite) = 1
Hope this helps.

999 = 1
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
x = 999
1000x = 999
Multiplying x times by 1000
999x = 999
Subtracting x from 1000x
999x/999 = 999/999
Dividing 999 from both sides
x = 1

I checked out the proofs on the web. There are several approaches; all conclude .9999999....... = 1.00
Hogwash. All they really prove is that math can be wrong. No rational person could conclude that something clearly less than 1 is equal to 1. This is yet another example that infinity, the infinite digits in .9999999999....... is not at all handled well by current mathematics.
PS: A lot of mathematicians will not like the "hogwash" part. But that's to be expected, calling math hogwash is like calling a holy book tripe. Even so, the way math treats infinity, singularity, and such, is based more on faith than it is in rigorous science...much like a holy book.

If you're meaning the repeating decimal 0.999..., then yes, I can show how it equals 1
We know that fractions of 9 follow a definite pattern:
1/9=0.111...
2/9=0.222...
3/9=0.333... (also known as 1/3)
4/9=0.444...
5/9=0.555...
6/9=0.666... (also known as 2/3)
7/9=0.777...
8/9=0.888...
9/9=0.999... or 9/9=1, take your pick.
