It is an 89 thunderbird, no carb, and i did change the filter in the trans. i was thinking of oxygen injection before the air filter(in very small amounts) but that might cause more problems, like running lean, or hot.

Although the difference may be minimal, here's an idea. If you are driving on a street under 40 mph, roll the windows down because the A/C uses more gas. Above 40 mph, use the A/C because having the windows down uses more gas. A car that gets excellent gas mileage is the Toyota Corolla. I made it 320 miles on 3/4 of a tank of gas! It only cost 20 dollars to fill up when we got back. Hope I helped!

fuel additives don't work unless you can get the additive techron from a standard or chevron dealer. The best way to get maximum fuel milage is to decarbon the fuel induction system. Your engine gets lots of carbon deposits, and they accumulate over time and the only way to get rid of these is to use a clean out system made by the BG COMPANY. I do many vehicles with this service and 5 gas readings on a dynamiter go way down and the CO2 increases which translates into better gas milage. The company can be found on the Internet and they show the repair facilities that do that repair in your area.

I have read through the answers and there are a lot of great ideas, one more though. Your transmission filter. If you have an automatic transmission chances are you have never changed this filter. Also some places will offer a power flush of the fluid in it, you might as well get this too. This will let you use a little less power to actually move your vehicle and hopefully save you a little more gas.

Keep the air pressure in the tires correct. Act like there is a raw egg between your foot and the accelerator. Keep weight out of your car. No bricks in the trunk. Do not expect a huge change.

Walk more often. J/K, if your car already gets good mileage, then you shouldn't have to worry about getting better mileage. But if you really want it, don't drive with your A/C on or your windows down. I know its hot so you probably won't do it. Good luck with the mileage. Thats all i have to say.
