You will hear all kinds of stuff, but the truth is as long as you are in a well ventilated area you can at any point of pregnancy. It is not true that the chemicals can leak into your scalp and cause health issues! It's the fumes you need to worry about, and if all else fails talk to your OB

I highlighted my hair toward the end of the first trimester. I had read that highlighting is better than dyeing, since there's less color involved.
My hairdresser was pregnant at the same time I was (she was a week behind me) and her doctor told her that as long as her area was well-ventilated and she took breaks, she was probably ok.
And think about all those celebrities who dye their hair while pregnant and their kids are fine. I think good nutrition and staying away from alcohol and drugs is a lot more important than avoiding hair coloring.

I had lowlights put in near the end of my 1st trimester. My doc said coloring your hair is fine, he said it would be more of a concern if I worked as a stylist and was exposed to the fumes all the time.

You cannot dye your hair at all during the pregnancy but you can hi-light your hair since it does not directly touch your scalp, but I was told by my ob/gyn not to hi-light my hair until the 2nd trimester

No. The chemicals in the dye go into the bloodstream and are harmful to the baby

you can dye your hair all the way through. My doctor told me the only reason they say not to is because of the smell. I colored my hair through both of my pregnancies my children are fine.
