Absolutely, yes. Republicans have been in charge for six years and have started a war in Iraq that is costing TWO BILLION DOLLARS PER WEEK of borrowed funds and endangering our troops without clear expectations and goals. All other national security priorities are ignored so we are less safe from terrorists under Republican leadership.

Congressional leadership, with all committees in both houses is in tight control define and control the agenda. At this point it's irrelevant what solutions Democrats have since they are not permitted to promote programs and solutions.

The only solution to offer is to insure that a majority of Democrats are elected to Congress to restore checks and balances and oversight. And, to establish a new agenda that does not simply continue to SPEND TWO BILLION DOLLARS PER WEEK down a rabbit hole in Iraq as things get worse and more desperate for our troops and the Iraqi people.

I don't think the problem is blind hatred for Bush. Almost everyone loved him right after 9-11. (I'm an independent by the way, I just don't like George W., his dad was much better, but Clinton even better.) It's that for some reason he chose to go after Iraq while in the middle of getting Osama, and no matter what reasoning anyone gave him he seemed so determined to invade iraq and ended up finding no weapons, just like the inspectors said. Nowadays it seems like republicans are so quick to call democrats unpatriotic and in turn believe blindly for some reason that everything that has been done by Bush has been right and democrats are so focused on hating him that everyones missed the point.

Don't republicans see the problem? The problem has and always was in Afghanistan, they attacked us, not Saddam, rather than focus all our resources there and finish the job we shifted most over to a country that has not changed since the first gulf war. In doing so we've opened pandora's box and destroyed the economy by spending billions on the wrong war, should have been Osama. We can't leave because if we do the leadership is most certainly going to be as bad if not worse than saddam. We can't stay either because of the immense cost and lives. They don't want us there. Etc. All the while Osama's still loose, republicans almost never mention him anymore, the subject is always iraq now.

Sadly, I don't think it will ever work, we will eventually leave, there will be some kind of civil war and when the dust settles we can only hope the next iraqi government is better. You can't bring democracy to a people that are so determined to drive you out that they are willing to commit suicide in the process. People like that can never be controlled.

So I ask you, setting aside your blind hatred for democrats, is the world a better place now, or back in 1999? And what would you do to fix what the current administration has done.

You know I don't think any so called leaders democrats or republicans are offering much in REAL solutions these days. I mean when I have a job review at work I have to come up with my 1 year, 5 year, and 10 year goals. They have to be measurable and I have to have ideas for the steps I am going to take to reach them. I would like to see a similar format applied to the war, terrorism, economy, and deficit. Otherwise mostly I would like the government to quit hanging in my personal and moral decisions that I have to make.

Yes. I would dramatically alter our foreign trade policies to try to get our manufacturing base back into America.

I would reduce dependency on foreign oil by NOT drilling in Alaska (which wouldnt yield much oil anyway compared to our consumption), I would start with an energy policy that true supports alternative energy, not with little tiny tax breaks like Bush's, but full fledged complete tax breaks for companies that work with alternative energy. Look at Solar Power, it's expensive not because of the technology, but because there arent enough companies manufacturing solar panels and solar technology. Supply can't meet the demand for it.

Scrap Amtrak, our piece of crap rail service, and encourage private investors to work with the government to reinvent our mass transit system to rival the efficiency of Japan's and Europe's systems. It's obvious govenrment here can't run mass transit system with any kind of ffociency or reliability.

Change policy to curb the 'cheaper is better' mindset corporations have, which fuels everything from hiring illegal workers to our balooning trade deficit.

Simplify our overburdered, over bloated tax system with a simple percentage, just like sales tax.

Spend less on military technology that does no good fighting urban ground wars like Iraq. Do we really need bunker busting nuclear bombs when we're doing a fine job blowing things up as is?

Stop all services for illegal immigrants. Not the word ILLEGAL. I have no problem with immigrants, however if you are here illgally, you should have no right to enroll your kid in a svhool, use our healthcare systems, welfare etc, unless you are a legal citizen of this country. There's lots of documentation proving these systems are strained because of illegal immigrants, go out on the net and find it. Do you know how hard it is to get citizenship in some European countries like Holland or Sweden? You can't just walk over their border and get amnesty and automatic citizenship. You have to prove you can contribute to thir country's economy.

More lightheartedly, I would make every American takea Suze Orman financial course to manage their money. That's the financial conservative in me. I wish sometimes self-managed retirement plans are mandatory. And I dont mean Social Security.

For the record, I am a moderate Democrat...socially liberal and fiscally conservative.

How do you defend a man that has put this country in the highest debt bracket we have had in years? Unemployment is on the rise again...what a shocker!
He is destroying our country and destroying our relations with other nations.

Are you so blinded that you can't see this country going down the toilet?

Unfortunately we have to wait unitl the next election to do anything at all about it, so what is the point of offering solutions, when none of the solutions offered are ever taken into affect?!

i am considered cruel and inhumane for this but here we go. 1) i would drop all the terrorist off either in the middle of the ocean with a broken boat( no way to get to shore) or in antartica 2) then i would gather all the murderers and all the people who raped and do the same thing so they can not break out of prison and do that again 3) i would make all those people who are sitting there not working who are not disabled get a job even if it is at fast food or at a retail store or send them off to mexico since we can get plenty of people from Mexico to work there fannies off for there famlies. ( people who sit around and do nothing then complain get my goat something fierce) 4) then i would get people together to work on making this no child left behind law work better so all of our kids get a good education

So email me sir and tell me what you think. P S i prefer to be called an independent for i do not like to follow the crowd like democratics or republicans. You are most likely an independant also according to some of your questions i have noticed

I believe that many people (on the left and right) have offered MANY solutions, but the administration refuses to listen to anything.

Also are you looking for solutions to a particular problem? The war, the economy, what is this question directed towards?

I recommend the following and it is IMHO only, not speaking for all democrats:

1. Announce to all Arab nations that we are immediately pulling out of Iraq.
2. Announce to all Arab nations that if there are any further uprisings against the USA we will use nuclear weapons instead of footsoldiers and destroy their country.
3. Bring the soldiers home immediately and let the Arabs keep their damn oil.
4. Pay $6 per gallon if necessary and make it tax deductible cuz the amount we are paying in Iraq could have paid for this many times over.
5. Tell the world we do not plan to be the world's police man but if they invade us or harm us they will be totally destroyed.

Amen
