Get her some of her favorite items and maybe a gift certificate that won't expire and lots of onesies. For my granddaughters I had special baby throws made. Kind of a tradition with us.You could also give her money in a nice art piece or in something she likes to use for when she recovers.Don't for get that special Christmas ornament for her tree coming up in December which will be here soon.I would maybe hold off on lotions and just see what she wants cause sometimes scents will bother a lady after she gives birth and it might take a few weeks to recover, If she collects items get her an engraved piece with a special meaning or a charm bracelet.:) Try high thread count sheets two.You can get them off QVC at great prices and they are so soft and last for years.I love mine and it's just a thought. Also , I would have given anything for someone to help send meals after my 2nd child was born cause my husband was tired too and my son was 8 and both were not good cooks then lol.

Having a baby is a big adjustment on one thing I would have appreciated more in the world than hand lotions was for someone to come over during the first week that I was home with my son and cook me a meal, do the dishes and some laundry. Or just stay with the baby for an hour or two so I could sleep.
Fortunately my husband was wonderful and very supportive but he had to come home from work and do all this for me so he never got a break. So, take a few hours and do that for your friend - believe me she'll remember that long after any hand lotion has dried up.

Comfy, cute PJ's (lots of maternity stores have soft snuggly sets that are really cute), a bottle of nice scented lotion, slippers, a gift certificate for a manicure/pedicare and/or facial for later, a trip to the salon to get a cute new haircut, a relaxing CD with beautiful music on it. Something that will make her feel good about herself.
For later on, how about hand-made coupons (or something) for babysitting, bringing her meals, cleaning, etc. or gift certificates to food places so she doesn't have to worry about cooking. Anything that might make her life a little easier. Having someone lend her a hand may be the most meaningful gift of all.

A baby gift that is always a favortie is one of those aquariums that hang on the side of the crib and makes a light show for the baby to watch at night. A great gift for your friend would be a gift certificate to a day spa so she could choose what she wants. A pedicure, manicure, facial, massage, beauty products.

The best thing in the world that I would give my best friend would be to take care of her baby some time in the next couple weeks to let her and her man relax. It gets very stressful after the first couple weeks. Or better yet write up a coupon book for her so when ever she wants a break she'll come to you.

Forget the traditional physcial gifts.
Go clean her house for her before she comes home from the hospital. Fill her freezer up with meals that all she and DH have to do is heat it up. Offer to run errands for her. Those are the kind of gifts she'll be OH SO GRATEFUL for and never forget.
Get her a gift certificate for a house cleaning service or for take out meals from decent places.
Get her a gift certificate for a massage.

since she is your best friend you could make her up a little bag of goodies like body wash&lotion, a candle , and maybe a book if she reads or may be a gift certificate for her to get a spa treatment (like a facial or massage)
anything that comes from you will be nice because she will know that you put alot of thought into it
Good Luck

Make her a coupon book, and in it put like 1 free night of babysitting, maybe one for a house cleaning, a day at the park and etc. And then a lovely gift for the baby.

People buy the baby tons of stuff. I thought maybe you can get her something for herself. People never think of the mother and I hate that. One time my friend and I bought our friend a ring with the baby's birthstone in it. She loved it and almost cried. It was nice to see that and she too went through a rough time. Good Luck.
