Use a vaporiser, they dont smell, last long and are effective even if your room is lacking a door or window(i say this from personal experience)
A mosquito net is a cheaper solution and u could either put the netting on the windows or buy a tent to put around your bed (if they "bug" you in the night)

You need to at least treat any standing water around the house or apartment with laracide, they a pretty cheap, easy to use and safe (but not safe for baby mosquitos) Try mosquito dunks or granuals.

Candles seem to work well, I've tried the mosquito burners inside but they only seem to work well outside for some reason...Regular candles work well for me though when being bugged by mosquitoes....
EDIT: The idea posted just above mine is supposed to work very well, albeit I've neevr tried it others have told me it works well.

I know exactly what you mean. There's one nasty sucker flying around in my house now, strange thing is, nobody else seems to see it but everytime i go to smack him he disappears, and the next thing you know you wake up with mosquito bites all over your face.
