I have seen the phrase "it's only castles burning" several times including in the Neil Young song and in a book title. What is the meaning and origin of this phrase?

the song was written during the protest era - early 1970's during the the Vietnam war. The "Old man/Dead man/Blind man" lyrics symbolize the establishment, government, "old guard" or authority. The "castles burning" is the establishment being questioned and brought down through protests, which could be extremely violent at that time ("sirens" and "red lights" signify the police response). The lyric "find someone who's turning and you will come around" - find a person who is involved with this movement and they will help you join the fight

Interestingly, I have dined in a couple of castles -but that's not my favorite thing about them. What I like is not only the sheer size and majesty of those buildings, but the workmanship that went into designing and creating them.

Good question. No idea. It may be meant to be sarcastic, like "It's only your life." Something like that. Young did a lot of protest songs, so... As for the book, may I ask what book that was? It's subject may tell you.

castles - I take it to mean society, the "establishment" its being destroyed.
