with buying any property abroad, always always get the advice of an english speaking lawyer. Cyprus is a funny one with many disputes over the ownership of land a property is often built on, if you can get all the correct certificates and deeds to the land, you shouldnt have any problem, but never do anything on the cheap by avoiding lawyers and having a land search done

Do not buy stolen land. I am often amazed how opengly foreigners are contemplating buying stolen property in the occupied areas of Cyprus. People should not think about this twice but for couple of hundreds of times. We have enough problems of our own without having foreigners looting our stolen land. The people of Cyprus both Greek and Turkish Cypriots did not give up the land they were forced to leave. We reserve every right to legally pursue anyone who participates anywhere in the EU. Why do people want to wrong other people just like that? There are plenty of legal ways to acquire land in Cyprus without infringing on anyone's basic human rights of property ownership. Stealing land from the locals is not a good way to start a new life in Cyprus.

We are buying property there. The ownership problems are the same in the south. You could be buying Turkish title down there but no one ever publicises that!
There is now an insurance policy you can buy to cover for anyone from the south claiming your property.

i think you would need to check with a specialist lawyer. my understanding is the UN resolution that makes the Turkish "ownership" of northern cyprus the cause of your concern, is still valid, although i might be wrong.

i would think twice about buying there. The land could belong to some one who was forced to flee northern Cyprus when it was invaded by turkey.
