Example:
I got tough love
One of my close high school friends got the sugar coat.
I am now successfull in college, I play a sport, I'm in a sorority, and I have an amazing internship running a gift shop. I like to thing I'm at a good independant stage for being 18, the only thing I dont pay for is my cell phone, I do EVERYTHING else (college & car included,) on my own.
My friend however, is 20 years old and still depends on her parents for everything, Her dad picked her school, and she is miserable from being away from home, she is completely sheltered, she was flat out shocked that people actually drink and have sex underage. (she called my crying cause she couldnt believe what people did at college) The only friends she has now are the ones who aske her to be the DD, (in her Mercedes M class which daddy bought). She's never had a job, and when she applied for her dream internship, they ACTUALLY laughed at her.
Now this may be a very general statement about sugar coating, but I think it says something.

Tough love is a good thing. There is nothing worse than false hope --- in any situation. Think about it. Its better to be right up front and erase all doubt. Then everyone knows where everyone else stands.

Some people believe in tough love but I think you get better results making the package as attractive as possible--you can tell people a lot of serious stuff if you frame it in a positive way, use humor, etc.

You can speak the truth in love. You don't have to be mean about it. Try to think how you would like to hear the truth. The truth is always best.

Tough love is a great thing for hard headed people.Because it show them exactly what you mean when they won't listen to reasoning.

As long as they get the truth, what is wrong with a little sugar coating. Always remember that a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down... unless you are diabetic.

Tough love is a must. sugarcoat things for your enemies and anyone else who you do not want to get stronger and develop.
