It depends on the state that she was divorced in (although I have to say six months is a long time) - when I got divorced in RI there was a 90 periods after our court date that we would have had to wait just encase we decided we did not want to go through with it and changed our minds. I know that the 90 day period is quite common among the Northeastern states and I wouldn't be suprised if 90 days was common in most states (Nevada being a huge exception on this) but you would really need to consult the laws on this matter under the jurisdiction she was married in and divorce in. That would be what I would tell you and as US citizens I don't think that would matter if you had the marriage done in Japan under what I figure will be with a millitary chaplain and/or justice of the peace.

NO legal reason to wait- when it comes to the death of a spouse or the end to a long-term relationship I think people say you should wait 6 months. But that's a tradition, not a law- and it is probably rooted in the fact that you don't want to make a mistake by jumping too quickly into a new relationship after all the stress of the death / divorce.
I'm not suggesting anything about your situation, however, I don't know you. Just commenting on the 6 month idea.

Technically it would not matter after a divorce how long a person waits, but studies show that a person should wait at least a year to recover from a divorce before even dating let alone get married. A person should take time for mourning, rebound, and reevaluation of oneself.

huh? getting married again when you just got your divorce is not a good idea because it seems that you're desperate. when you get married, you have to give it a time in order for you to not make a mistake again. YOu should learn by your mistake. Why did you get a divorce on the first place? Are you sure that the person that you're going to marry is really the right one? Then you're going to do a divorce again and again and again.

I think as soon as the divorce papers are signed your free to do whatever. My ex-brother-n-law got married again before the papers were signed. He didn't get in trouble. Which trash usually don't for some reason. They get away with murder. If a descent person does something wrong, there will be law everywhere.

It could take up to 6 months for a divorce to become final. Once the divorce is final you can marry whenever you want.

It dpends on where you live. In NC it takes at least a year of separation and then a couple more months waiting for court date to grant the divorce. A pain in the neck. Ask someone in the courthouse there.

Yes, in japan a woman does have a waiting period before she remarries.
This would apply to you if your intended is a Japanese citizen.

Rule of thumb is in the court system you can get your divorce granted but it wont be finalized for six months after the judge granted it, but you can get married after that. It will be worth the wait im sure.
