There IS no point whatsoever to perform any kind of surgery on healthy body parts, but cultures all over the world have developed weird habits of piercing, cutting & mutilating their kids. Most of the mutilation of sexual organs is intended to reduce sexual lust. Female circumcision makes it impossible for women to feel anything sexually. Male circumcision desensitizes the penis. No reason why modern man should continue this pagan tradition.

The foreskin's there to protect the sensitive head and keep it smooth and lubed. Served an important purpose when we were running around naked, but it's still useful for protection against scabs, infection and wear. Unless the skin's too narrow, it's very easy to wash properly and an uncut d*ck won't smell any more or less than a cut one.

In my native country, boys aren't circumsized. We still don't get more infections than guys in *cutting countries*, the women don't get more cancer of the uterus and we don't smell bad.

Wish Myth Busters would catch on? Or they have already?

Most often not what think. Guys are circumcised for various reasons, but only a few of those reasons are legitimate I think. One major reason is religion, and that's a big valid one.

Invalid reasons include that it makes it easier to clean, it reduces infections/STDs, and it looks better. The foreskin is very easy to clean and it isn't inherently more susceptible to infections or STDs. Note that about 80% of the world's male population is uncircumcised, so the part of looking better is a vanity issue (which should automatically make it invalid). You don't hear 80% of the world's guys saying how they have repeated troubles with infection and STDs and such; in fact, Europe as a whole has lower STD rates than the US and the majority of Europe's guys are uncut. This means that safe sex >>>>> circumcision.

The foreskin sometimes will have problems, just as sometimes people have problems with their tonsils and appendix; however, rarely do these problems call for surgical intervention. Sometimes the foreskin is too tight, making erection painful. This is called phimosis, and in very severe cases circumcision will be a good decision. But this condition only occurs in like 5% of uncut adults, and only a fraction of that is severe enough to warrant it. Some people have bad luck with repeated irriation/infections, no matter how clean they keep themselves. This too would be a good case, but this doesn't happen to the majority of people.

Circumcision should be considered a surgery. And as with any surgery, it should only be done if all other options are exhausted. It doesn't make sense to cut part of someone off to make sure certain problems don't arrise. That's like removing the tonsils to prevent tonsilitis or the appendix to prevent appendicitis, these things just don't happen. Why should circumcision be any different? Besides, circumcision (especially infant circumcision) carries risks and complications, and even post-op complications not directly linked to the operation itself. It should be treated in the US like it is in the majority of the world - if it's needed, it's needed, otherwise leave that part of the body alone.

Julie, if a man is not circumcises and he is very, very conscious about his personal hygiene it will not matter. Not being circumcised allows allot of dirt (bacteria) to build up in the inner portion (top) of the penis which if not cleaned can not only smell, but cause a bacterial infection for the man and of course his partner. It is more hygienic to be circumcised. Now an answer said that it may take away from sexual desire, although there is no proof of it, it can be said that non-circumcised men are more sensitive than circumcised men. You have to make the decision, the key is if your partner is not circumcised, I hope he knows how to clean himself.

NONE--it is an ancient religious practice that for some perverted reason the medical profession has yet to fully discredit. Probably because most of the MDs were circumcized when newborn. In some african tribal cultures, the circumcism is done when the boy reaches puberty, and the elder men whack off the foreskin-OUCH! Most is done to newborns. Billions of men are not circumsized so this hygiene myth needs to go away. And-yes I am, but had no choice in the matter.

Supposedly it helps the guy stay cleaner. Originally tho it was a religious ritual and I have always wondered how anybody ever thought it up--its not the kind of thing that would cross your mind. I would rather be uncircumsized, if the choice had been left up to me.

There are many reasons for getting snipped. Religious reasons, health and hygiene reasons, and of course, cosmetic and sexual reasons. I still dont know why people wait to get circumsized until 9 or 10 or later, just get it over with at 3 days. Ultimately, curcumcision desensitizes the penis to make sex last longer, and many women prefer it cut for cosmetic reasons. Also, bacteria tends to collect in the foreskin and can lead to infections with their sexual partners.

When the orifice of the foreskin is too small, to permit its normal retraction, over the glans penis the condition is called phimosis. the perpuce is adherent to the glans penis up to 3 years of age. It may be from birth , or acquired. If acquired it may be due to : iflammatory, traumatic or neoplastic. treatment is surgery:Circumcision. Otherwise it may lead to complications.

Some people say because of cleanliness. But I've heard that circumcision decreases 40% of pleasure during sex.

NONE. All of the above is nonsense. It wont make you cleaner, it wont prevent any STDS. But the skin of your glans will keratinize itself making ti ugly, hard and cracked.

Why people do this unfair procedure to children that are unable to decide?
