Because of all of the appeals? What do you think? Isn't that a good argument for getting rid of the death penalty? There will be a follow up question later...

As usual, people think it is all or nothing...I never said get rid of PUNISHMENT I said get rid of the death penalty as the punishment. We don't let murderers go in Michigan. And we don't have more of them either. And I don't need to re-argue anything. Just because you don't believe it doesn't mean it isn't true. It costs more to put someone to death. Period.

Nikki, I have had a friend killed, brutally, because the state let him go mistakenly. He killed two more women, my friend was one. Now, since mistakes are made (he was let out wrongfully) how would you like to be one of the ones that gets put to death wrongfully? And don't ever call me missy again...you should think before you just spew (in CAPS) at people. Have a nice(r) day.

I believe it is an excellent argument for abolishing the Death Penalty (DP). Personally, I have no moral objection to the DP; executing the monsters that commit crimes deserving the DP does not bother me. I would even pull the lever.
The problem with the DP is that in a free society such as ours, that values human life (and it should) we must take extreme care to ensure the right person is punished. As death is final, this entails a long appeals process before the lever is pulled.
I would just build a large prison in a large state and have other states pay to have their former DP convicts there. Once you have been convicted of a former DP crime (used up the normal appeals process) you should get no more appeals and be stuck in the big box forever. This would eliminate the lengthy and costly appeals process assocaited with the DP.
Why put so much effort into killing someone when you can just lock them up and throw away the key?

There is no GOOD argument for getting rid of the death penalty.
IT should NOT cost so much!
That is the reason so many EXECUTIONS are held up, there is no reason for it to cost so freakin' much! They have the prices HIGH, they have APPEALS to buy time, because the states cannot afford it. It is a cycle that needs to be broken.
Death to people on DEATH ROW!
It is the way they do it, they need to just take them out back and put a BULLET( S ) to the head!
That would save the costs.
You got the GUN...$150 or less, a few good bullets $100, some mops, some bleach! $50, A BLACK BAG! $100=$400! I might be off a few bucks but way lower than the needle, electric or gas!
ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST, PRICELESS!
The FEDERAL GOVERNMENT will try to make BUCKS on anything they do. And it is the bleeding hearts that are against the death penalty that raise the prices. If those SOB's would not have the price up so high they could start executions and clear death row!
What they need to do is sell body parts that are still good, from the inmates that are on death row and help pay the cost of the execution!
While they are there and alive get their bodies as healthy and clean as possible, and then when they are GONE the bodies go to DONATIONS!
That would make it worth the amount that they have set up for the ONE shot or electrocution...
Think about it...the government sets the prices. That is where the change needs to be.
There is no reason for the prices to be that high other than to try to SAVE them SOBS that killed people.
They are sick and need to be PUT DOWN!
When they DIE they will return in as a new creation and start over, let's hope they will have learned to be a better person, be glad that, with death comes new life...
Even for so called 'sinners'
BTW I am not talking about them being a NEW CREATION in a spiritual way, I am talking about re carnation!
They will be back.
They will have a new body and life.
A new start...Just like who ever they killed.
DEATH is over feared...expecially by those who believe all the bible crap...There is nothing wrong with the DEATH PENALTY!
Don't follow up with any other question, this one was lame enough!

Hi, we can't afford to punish you right now, so we're gonna let you off to reoffend.
No, cost is not a good argument for anti-punishment of any kind.
Plus, people on life sentence also appeal. So add the same amount that it costs for the death penalty to the cost of putting someone up for life, and re-argue.

It is not a good argument to get rid of the death penalty. It is a good argument for changing the system. Limit them to 1 appeal, or as many appeals as they want in a 1 year time frime. Fix the system, don't throw it away.

No, that isn't a good argument for getting rid of the death penalty. I don't think money is a motivating factor when arguing for or against the death penalty!

How is death a punishment? It's not. If you believe in life after death, all a potential executee has to do is "find Jesus" to be saved, and go to so called heaven. If he's is a Muslim extreemist, and they are right, he goes to heaven, etc....
If there is no god, he is just dead, no more no less, no soul to be punished.
In either option there is no punnishment for the crime. Life in prison is a punishment. The death penalty is no deterant, as when death penalty crimes are being committed most of those criminals aren't thinking about their crime, or their potential punnishments. They don't think about that untill after they are caught.

Most of this forum believe in Shrie Law and would like to publicly cut peoples heads off the same day they are convicted.
I am neither for or anti death penalty. But Solomon said because sentence in not executed speedily it is set in the hearts of men to do evil.
A notion that you can get away with murder emboldens many to commit the crime.

You're absolutely right! That's why the process needs to be streamlined, without all the irrational levels of appeals. We need these people to be executed in a quick and responsible manner, not living decades while wasting the courts' time and the peoples' money.
And, what the heck, let's expand the list of crimes that merit capital punishment!

No, it's motivation to get rid of 90% of the appeals. Streamline the process to bring down the cost and get rid of the lower elements of human society.

Personally, I'd make every person on death row do this ...... 18 hours a day.
That would put an end to all appeals in a week.
