I'm thinking of getting an Alienware PC, but I heard they weren't much to shout at, and can I get a decent one at around £1,000??

Alienware are over priced for what they are. I don't think much of Dell either (we had one and it spent more time being repaired than it did with us). We have had an Acer for a little over a year now and it is truly excellent- good value for money and has not broken once. The tech that we bought this one from uses Acer himself, so they can't be all that bad.

If you are flexible consider buying a PC from America and getting it shipped here. All you need to run it is a step up transformer, which retail for around £35, whilst you get a top of the range computer for $1000 (£500), which works out at great value. Check out www.aspiretechnet.com This guy is excellent.

As for printers, we have a brother and it is excellent. The print quality is excellent and the cartridges last forever.

Alienware PCs are nice, but pricey. If you're really into the 'eye candy' then get one; but, personally I would either build one myself with the same specs for 1/2 the price or have a computer shop build one for me if I wasn't comfortable building one and it would still be cheaper.
