Before you decide to move out, perhaps you should stop and think about why your friend has become an "@$$hole". What have you been doing? Do you watch a lot of TV? Do you stay up all hours of the night, or lounge around all day on your days off watching TV, instead of doing something productive, or instead of perhaps contributing in some way to the household -- like washing dishes, cleaning up, etc? And as for the shower -- same thing -- are you taking really long, hot showers? Hot water costs money. Are you contributing to the utilities? Are you taking showers when you get up, regardless of how it impacts your roommate?

Living with another person to whom you are not related is difficult. Families will cut you some slack -- roommates don't have to.

By all means, move back in with your parents, but realize that unless you take a good look at your own behaviour, the next time you try and move out, the chances are that you will have a repeat of this episode, unless you have fixed what YOU are doing to contribute to the problems.

Sounds to me that your friend is reflecting something to you. It maybe about your childhood. Why run, when you can overcome a good lesson by standing up for yourself in a firm but humble way. If this person is trully a friend, then they shouldn't mind hearing some good sound advice from a true friend. Otherwise, you could end up relearning the "DO AS YOUR TOLD" lesson all over again with someone else in your life.So learn the lesson and move on and be haaaaappppppyyyy.

Maybe just mention it to him like you have here. Just say, listen, I realise we need some ground rules, but do you want to not tell me what to do all the time? It's really p!ssing me off. Chances are he will copme to his senses, but if not, just say, I'm really sorry but things aren't working out I'm going to move back home. Trust me if things are that bad it won't matter about the gas money, a long as you can live happily.
Hope this helps

I think that first of all you should have a good talk with this friend. Tell him to do his own business and not to catch up with you. Explain to him that you have your own life, your own way of doing things and your own way of thinking, so tell him not to mingle with you. Try to keep cool and don't turn this into a fight, you just have to make it clear to him that you two are living together for 1,2,3 reasons and that's it.

If you see that there is no way out, then move back to your parents, but first try explaining things.

Good luck!

If you going to hear at all times him telling you what to do you should go live with your parents because hi has no rights to tell you what and how to do. His not your parents.

well firstly you gotta tell him that he has been getting on your back and you want to live the way you want and you'd rather him not tell you what to do so much! hopefully he didn't realized what he was doing and will stop. sometimes i'm kinda bossy and if someone tells me politly then i'll stop! and your parents are proably going to boss you around too!

The answer to your question should be obvious to even yourself. I presume you are an adult. Why do you have to depend on anybody? You would probably be better off renting your own apartment close to your job and being responsible for your own welfare.

If you are paying any rent/utilities then he has no say what so ever. If your not then he does up to a point. It sounds like he's a control freak and you should find other arrangements.
