Grand Island, Hastings and Kearney, Nebraska are called tri-city. The tri-city group may refer to foster and adoptive families.

In the Northeast,
Connecticut, New York and New Jersey are commonly referred to as the Tri-State area. This is due to the fact that many residents in these 3 states travel and work in this area, and we share the same weather system, etc. For example, CT and NJ residents commute to Manhattan for work.

I think you really meant tri-state area. If it is then the tri-state area is: New York, New Jersey & Connecticut.

There is also a tri-borough area in New York. It is Brooklyn, Queens and Bronx and they are linked by the Tri-Borough Bridge.

Hope this helps.
