You should get some referals and interview some peds now. And don't over-look family practice doctors as well. We ended up going with a FP because he was the one who fit our family best. It's nice for us to all see the same doctor and he's always been very concerned about how ALL of the family is at each visit, no matter who is the actual patient at the time.

When you get referals, always ask people "WHY do you like your doctor?" The exact reason that they love their doctor might be a reason you would HATE him and it could save you the time and effort of setting up an appointment with a caregiver who simply would not fit your family.

Ask the doctor questions about how his practice runs, what his recommendations on things like circumcision, vaccinates, breastfeeding, starting solids, etc. are and any other questions you have. Then make a decision about who seems to fit with your beliefs the best.

Yeah they recommend that you sign up for a pediatrician at 6 months of pregnancy I'm 33 weeks and just signed up for one last week so don't feel bad that you waited. Just go as soon as possible because the doctor you have your heart set on might not be excepting new patients and you will have to find another one which could take time congrats

its a good idea to go ahead and pick your pediatrician. you don't necessarily have to sign up but get a couple you think you would like or that friends and family have recommended and just call and make sure they are accepting new patients. sometimes you can sign up ahead of time but most of the time as long as they are accepting new patients you are good. the only reason i would ever actually "sign up" is if problems are expected. otherwise you can leave the hospital care of you baby in the hands of the on staff pediatricians. congratulations! i know it gets tough these last weeks, hang in there!

It's up to you, but I'd say you're probably ready to pick out a pediatrician at this point.

The best thing to do is to get some recommendations from other parents you trust or ask your OB who he/she recommends. You can then go meet with the doctor or you can tell the nurses in labor and delivery after you have your baby which doctor you'd like to use and they contact them for you.

Do you have health insurance??? If so most of them require that you sign up for a pediatrician within a certain amount of time. Check with them. If I were you I would probably do it no later than when you have less than 4 weeks to go.

I am 6 months pregnant and everyone is telling me to go ahead and get on the list. So I have already made an apt to meet a pediatrician.

It is best to look for one NOW so you have one for your baby's one week check up. Ask around, family, friends, co-workers. Go and interview some of the doctors and find one that you like!

If you live in the Denver area, I recommend Pediatrics at DTC. They are in the Englewood area off of Dry Creek and I-25. Dr. John Bosley is awesome!!!
