I'm a Jays fan, but I don't blame the media for not discussing Toronto much because we have three teams still several games ahead of us in the wild card chase. If we can make up some games, then we'll get some media attention. I don't think they're counting us out, so much as they're just ignoring us at this point.
As for playing the "bottom feeders," look what we did when given that chance last month. We lost 2 of 3 to Texas, split with KC, lost 2 of 3 to Texas again, then did the same with Seattle. We have to prove that we can beat these teams before others start taking the Jays' run seriously.

Look at the standings, they are 7.5 games out of first or the wild card with several teams between them. They would have to get really hot, and have at least 3 teams start losing (Boston, Chi, and Minn), which isn't likely.
I would start looking at 2007 for Toronto!
American League W L GB Left
Chi White Sox 72 48 -- 42
Minnesota 70 50 2.0 42
Boston 69 50 2.5 43
Toronto 65 56 7.5 41
LA Angels 63 59 10.0 40
Texas 62 60 11.0 40

I think counting the Blue Jays out of the wild card is a lot easier than counting them out of the AL East. With New York and Boston playing a 5 game set this weekend and only being 6.5 games out of the division (7.5 out of the wild card) and take into consideration the remaining schedule.. I like their chances.
Oh and another thing, they have winning records against both Boston and New York this season with two series' against both of them its more than possible.
The Blue Jays have better pitching than you all think. In the past 2 weeks they have posted a sub 3.00 era. They also took 3 of 4 games from the vaunted Twins at their home ball park. AJ Burnett has won 3 games in a row, Halladay is a hero, BJ Ryan is one of the best closers in the game and the Jays have 2 relief pitchers in League and Accardo that can pitch. (League tossed three in a row 100+ MPH)
And finally, the reason the Jays dealt Showenweiss and Hinske is because they were going to be Free Agents at the end of this season.. so instead of losing them to free agency, they traded them now for cash so they could re-sign Wells and Cattalnatto...both much better than the injury prone Showenweiss and the hot cold cold cold Hinske.

It's not that they are being counted out...but in reality, 7.5 games is a lot to make up this late in the season. It's not impossible, and it has been done, but you are talking about the Jays needing to be 8 games better the rest of the way, then the Yankees, RedSox, WhiteSox, and Twins (all ahead of them). Being 8 games better than 4 other teams, over the course of 42 more games, is a ton to ask.
Again, not impossible, but the odds of those 4 teams being 8 games worse than the Jays, is a lot to ask.

I not often count selection energy strictly. on occasion if i'm ingesting a sparkling nutrients i seem on the kit just to get an concept of what proportion energy are in a serving length. Or on occasion if i'm getting something from a eating place i seem on the internet internet site on the calorie content fabric when you consider which would be VERY astounding. as an occasion, i became into observing the calorie counsel for Jimmy John's and that i observed that the extra advantageous veggie sub has one thousand energy. no longer precisely what i bypass for with a veggie sub, yet a minimum of now i comprehend! extra many times I purely attempt to no longer consume whilst i'm no longer hungry!!

Well yeah, they have all those games vs. those teams in front of them, but they're not going to sweep all those games, and the teams they are chasing are well over 20 games over .500 and the Blue Jays are 9 over, plus the Jays only have one starter where you know you have a good chance to win when he steps on the mound and that's Halladay, Burnett has been better but you guys need to almost sweep to get back in it, so, unfortunately the media is right, you guys are toast!

Because they are too far out,and for every game they gain in the standings, they fall two games further back.
It is obvious that their G.M. feels they are done this season. He has started trading away some of their top players. Most recently Schwoeweiss and Erik Hinske.
Go Blue Jays!

I'm not really counting them out per se. You have to admit, the way some of the teams are playing ahead of them, it will be tough for them to move up. They simply don't have depth at pitching.
A Tiger's fan-yes, stuck with them the past ten years (sob).
