Personally, I think as a singer and songwriter Modonna certinally had the right to do anything during her concert even this. I think it was a plea to draw attention to the cruisification of christ and stop people from thinking about material things like money, land, wars, politics, and everything else that we have to deal with in our daily lifes that may make us forget the TRUE things out there.

Madonna is a media whore who will do anything to get attention. Additionally, she is struggling with her mid-life crisis and wants to prove to younger audiences that she can still stir up controversy. It is really quite pathetic. And don't even get me started on her fake British accent!

good question. madonna is pushing 50, the lady has run out of ideas. so, she feels that "crucifying" herself on stage will draw people in and maybe she will become like a God to people (actually she already is to some) but, the satan tried that one way back in the day and he was punished and cast out of heaven.
