I enjoyed Hostel. I love movies with lots of gore, that's why I liked it. The story isn't the best for the most part, but if you like movies with a major gore factor, then you'll like it. As far as comparison to Saw, I don't agree with that at all because Saw and Saw II are in a class of their own! The imagination in Saw is NOT in Hostel. Like I said, if you love GORE, see Hostel, if you're looking for a good SCARY movie, then Hostel isn't worth your time.
FYI jackyjones -- It is actually "See No Evil" that Kane from WWE is in, not Hostel. :)

Hostel is okay. Not great, but okay. The acting is ok for what the film is. It's not too gory but this is coming from someone who loves Japanese cinema (the masters of gore and blood) It even stars a japanese director, Takashi Miike, so any gore they do have is most likely inspired by him. The end got a little boring but overall its a watchable film. Wouldn't object to seeing it again.

Its awful! If you have to watch it, wait for it on HBO. Dont even waste your money renting it! I won't spoil it for you, although its already spoiled enough, but it could have been a cool movie if it wasn't soooo overdone. The attempts at gore were pathetic and so fake, and the "soft-porn" made it seem low-budget. Personally, I was waiting for the sleazy 70's music to kick in at any moment.
Saw and Saw II were much better as far as gore and pain is concerned, The Ring rules for straight up scary (The Grudge was ok too), and if you want disturbing mind-trips, try Three Extremes. Only the first one though. Part two sucked.

That is a tough question. It depends on how well you handle sex scenes and gore. That's just about all you see in the movie. But it wasn't all that bad just very sick and twisted. I thought about it a lot over the couple days after I watched it so it must have made some impression.

No. Not so good as "Saw".... which MUST be
very good, because it is also inspired by
" S E V E N " — remember that movie !!!
Or "The Cell" ....these are horror-movies...
"Hostel" is just a splatter-movie : boring.

I have.
Its OK.
I'm a fan of seriously frightening, scary, gore type movies and this one didn't do it for me. The torture scenes are short and really don't show much, just the impression of pain and gore.
If your a person that doesn't frighten or scare easy, you'll be disappointed.

i saw about 5 minutes of it and that was enough, it was truly sick! it made me want to throw up! lets just say it involved and knife and an ankle tendon! and another one involved an eyeball and a blowtorch! if u dont want to have nightmares for the next 6 months i recommend u dont watch it!
