You are obviously a full time employee if you are working 40 hours a weeks and you are entitled to full time benefits. If they want you to continue to work 40 hours they should be required to classify you as full time.

Up to 35 or 40? hours is considered part time, 40 and over full- in most places. Some companies, such as grocery and retail stores, base full and part time on your responsibilities, not your hours. If you have managerial duties, need to leave the store for work reasons, or can be transferred to another branch without your request are examples. Talk to your boss and ask him to define your responsibilities as a part timer. The benefit to part time is you can ork as little as 15 hours per week if you want, but they don't have to keep you if that's not what they need. Good luck!

Unless the weeks are special training weeks, then yes, you can demand less hours or a full time wage. Full time is classified from anything above 38 hours a week. Part time is obviously anything less than this, but there is usually a minimum, depending on your career and contract, but part time usually averages around 30 hours a week.

Companies like that are often shady. They hire you as part time for a lower wage. And they also don't offer benefits for part timers. You could ask for fewer hours and if they refuse just tell them straight up that you were hired part time and if they cant give you part time hours you are going to qiut. The threat of you quitting might change their mind if not find a different part time job. Good luck with whatever you decide.

An employer can require you to work any number of hours per week. Federal says if you are hourly they must pay your 1.5 times your hourly rate if you WORK over 40 hours per week. Check your state law which may be better than Federal law as far as overtime. If you dont want to work the hours, they can dismiss you.
