ok, heres the story, i was playing football with a couple of my youth people and when i jumped to make catch, somebody got me on my legs when i was in the air, and when i landed, i fell straight on my arms which missed early on my break fall (i was in karate... so i knew how to, i was higher up in the air then i thought i would) which also landed on my right ribs. My arm felt better in a few days, but it seems somewhere around my ribs hurt... (feels like muscle strain) but i dont know, i've never broken a bone before so i dont know what it feels like. It's been almost a week, and instead of getting better, it feels the same, a little worse but not a whole lot.
so... what do u think it is?

Have you had an X-ray to make sure you do not have a rib fracture? (Fractures don't always show up on X-rays, so your Dr. might direct you to have a CT scan also.) Also it could be a bruise or torn cartilage between the ribs. I have an inflammation of the cartilage between the ribs, and it aches with the weather or when I sit up too long (or wear anything narrow and constrictive in that area). If your rib were truly broken, you would feel quite an ache, and it would be important that you get it treated, as rib fragments could damage surrounding structures or cause a lung puncture in extreme cases. If you have any trouble breathing, by all means, get it checked out! BTW, bravo on knowing those breakfalls! Knowing how to fall saved me when I fell down some stairs once! Good luck!

P.S. If you have damaged the cartilage, I feel for you. I have tried for 2 years to get rid of the chronic pain caused by whatever damage the cartilage between my ribs has sustained. The thoracic surgeon finally suggested a pain clinic, which I think is just his way of throwing up his hands and saying he doesn't know what to do. Cortisone shots or a nerve block would help the pain, but beware of the damage that cortisone can do to tissues. Personally I just had to add it to my catalog of continuous pains. Another possible treatment might be acupuncture or something called Prolotherapy, which is just acupuncture with a neutral solution, but definitely do some research before you decide on those.
