A runny nose commonly occurs in the initial stages of a cold or the flu. It's also possible that seasonal allergies, such as hay fever, may be the cause of your runny nose. You may have experienced a runny nose at other times — after you've been crying or when you're outside on a cold day. In these cases, you often need no more than a few extra tissues to clear up your nasal passages.

Most of the time all you need to do for a runny nose is blow your nose. However, you can also try an antihistamine. This type of medication counteracts histamine — the substance your body releases when you're exposed to something you're allergic to. Whether your runny nose is the result of a cold or an allergy, an antihistamine will dry up some of the mucus your nose produces. Make sure to follow the label instructions, though. Antihistamines can have side effects or interact with other medications and alcohol.

In some cases, a runny nose can be a sign of a more serious problem. See your doctor if:

Your symptoms persist longer than three weeks, or you have a fever along with your runny nose.
Your nasal discharge is thick and a color other than white or gray — perhaps green or yellow — and is accompanied by sinus pain. This may be a sign of a bacterial infection, such as sinusitis.
Your nose is persistently runny on one side only. In a child, this might be a sign that a small object is lodged in that nostril.
You have blood in your nasal discharge or a persistent clear discharge after a head injury.
You have a serious medical condition, such as severe asthma or emphysema, or you're on immune-suppressing medications

Is it one nostril or both?
Chances are that the spetum of your nose (the soft cartilage area that divides the nose) is deviated. There is corrective surgery available, but I hear that a) it is very painful and b) the results are not always as expected. I am considering it myself. Goodluck brother.

I had that problem for 10 YEARS. The only thing that helped was Zyrtec and Flonase. Your doctor has to prescribe them for you. Good Luck.

No! Don't use Afrin or Neo Synefrin, they both only made things worse, as they are HIGHLY addictive!!
