For some reason (Rocky/Sly Stallone), Philadelphia has become the site of the quintessential underdog story. It probably has to do with being so close to New York CIty. The movie is no moer about the Eagles than "The Aviator" was about Pan Am or "Rudy" about the Notre Dame football team. The movie is about the triumphs and tribulations of Vince Papale, who made the Eagles 1976 squad from an open try-out. (If you think the Eagles aren't as good as their rep now, you should have seen them then).
So the point of the movie is that back in 1976 it was possible for an athletic, but inexperienced 30 year old to make an NFL roster. Wikipedia (2nd link) explains it better than me.

Because the NFL doesnt make the movies, filmmakers do. And flimmakers dont care about record.
And actually the Eagles were terrible in the timeframe this movie took place, which is why Vermeil (played by Greg Kinnear) opened up try outs to the general public. Vince Papale (Marky Mark) was a bartender and a substitute teacher who made the team with practically no football experience.

The movie isn't about the Eagles. It's about this 30 year old bartender who only played one year of high school football in the 60's trying to make the team during an open tryout in 1976.

It's a movie about two gay Philly Eagles that have an affair called Broke Wing Mountain. I think one was Dick Vermiel and the other was Donovan McNabb when he was a little boy.
The Eagles Suck.
Dallas Cowboys are still, and will always be, Americas Team.

The movie isn't really about the Eagles. It's about an ordinary guy who tries out for there team and makes it. From the commercials I've seen, it looks like they're using a video game for the game footage. It doesn't look real at all. I won't be going to see this one.

Team doesn't matter. Disney has a knack for making feel-good movies. It's about a normal guy who never played college football who tries out for and makes a pro team. Simple as that.

It is about a man became a player back in the '70's. I believe he was a writer, he went through camp and played in a game.
