I have a house. Every thing works find but the ACs blow fuses. I need circuits for the AC's I have the expansion space in the fuse box. But people seem to now work on them. However, I was told that having one wasn't against code. The service is 100 AMPs which right now is okay. I'd rather not liquidate my savings to up grade to 200 AMP service, just to get dedicated AC outlets.

You would be wise to call an electrician and get the answer you need. Most of them will answer your question over the phone.

There may be no need to upgrade your service provided the following. All fuses are correct size for wires--you have space in the panel for new fuses--you have a correctly fused main shut off for the whole panel To solve this problem, it usually requires a dedicated circuit for each unit.Fuses are good protection for wires but they can be inconvenient when they blow. Call an electrician to tell him that you would like to run new lines for your A/Cs. You can always change the service at a later date if your power demands increase with additional appliances etc. With a new service you would still have to run these new circuits. An honest licensed electrician should have no problems doing the work with this approach. Good luck.

It may be possible. Is it wise? No. Depending on the size of the house, 100 amp is most likely way too small. You can patch, patch and patch and, in the end, it will all have to be redone anyway. Tough choice. The AC blowing fuses is not a good sign at all.

If you don't have electric heat 100 amps is plenty..Houses use to run on 40 - 60 amp services..
