Why is it that A NUMBER (x) to the ZERO POWER (^0) equals 1?

look at it this way ...
take a number eg 3
3^3 = 27
27 div 3 = 9 or 3^2
9 div 3 = 3 or 3^1
3 div 3 = 1 or 3^0

variable such as x,s,c,a,b and so on are ALWAYS = to 1. So x to the 0 power is one because you still have the variable just sittong there, and since the variable is the same as saying it is one then the answer is 1.

Think of it like a pattern. saying (x) to the power of (y) is like saying "1 times (x), (y) number of times". so 1 times x, zero number of times is one. 1 times x, one time is x (x^1 = x). 1 times x, twice is 1 times x times x (x^2 = x times x), etc.
