Where can I find good live music in Manchester, Bury or Bolton this weekend? Not looking for a big gig, a good band playing in a pub will suffice.

I feel terrible, as it's Monday and therefore I am too late to help you have a great weekend. No one else bothered to answer as well, you must be very spiteful towards this site by now. Therefore, hopefully a tip about the next weekend would do you for. And no, I won't tell you to fork off to Edinburgh or Liverpool, to have a decent night out. I am not that mean twice over.

On Saturday 26th, you could visit Creamfields, a pop festival. Not sure if you like the idea of standing in a field, in the rain, smelling sweaty youngsters and lots of sickening beer, but there's some good music on - dance mainly but some pop rock too. If you like the Prodigy, Goldfrapp, Tiësto, Ferry Corsten, timo Maas.. Go to Daresbury, a half hour drive from Manchester. Alternatively, visit Congleton Park in Cheshire for some classical music in the open air.

On Sunday, the Rolling Stones visit Sheffield, but you probably don't care either for the aged rockers or for Sheffield, so forget I even mentioned it. Girls Aloud and Chico visit the aforementioned park in Cheshire. No, Congleton is a village I presume.

Smaller gigs? The Edinburgh festivals are still on until August 28th.. Though I promised I wouldn't mention Edinburgh or Liverpool.. Then again, how could you want a brilliant night out and not mention the Fringe?

edit: after reading your spiteful remarks about the pun intended, I am glad to know I was right about how you feel after this weekend. Still, I'm in a good mood, enjoy it while it lasts. Or make me a moodswing :o)
