Well - one who likes paying taxes and if you think you know better how to spend your money than the "government" would - and we know bono thinks that way - why should that suprise you? Bono want to fight world poverty - I give him some credit for trying even if I am not all sure I agree with his politics and I am sure there are things I would find about him I would think are hypocritical between what he does and what he says.

Dont ever remember bono preaching about, hey you gotta pay the tax man or he will starve ,i think he practices what he preaches by giveing time money and aide to people he see as the most needy. When your a public figure, doesnt mean you have to be a poor public figure to make a difference in the world,at least hes doing something and shouldering a lot of slack from people for trying
Who exactky would benifit from him doing f all.?.
PS: Music started out as a way of making a political stand point why cant it now.?

the tax system in Ireland will change by next year.this means artists will have to pay taxes in future. when an artist such as bono whom is amongst the top earners in Ireland will face the new taxes, his percentage will reach the heavens and it is a question of what will the government will do with this money.
i am in full understanding of this move and lets not forget what he and his band has done for Ireland for 25 years. he is taking his share of glory for the work he is doing for the developing world and i am pretty sure we will continue to see the transformation from rock singer to business magnate. recently he acquired a substantial stake in Forbes magazine. his moves are capitalist but i am sure he has plans to level off the worlds disparities by their rules.
odd that u2 are more popular abroad than at home, yet it was them whom are a part of the face of modern Ireland us Irish are so proud of.
finally governments govern the tax system and some organisations and indeed individuals have the power of say about taxes and if they want to pay.
examples- nokia pays minimal taxes in finland and has threatened to move its hq to the far east. the government agreed to their terms with conditions which saved 50,000 jobs or 10% of the work force. bill gates does not pay taxes but is the most generous philanthropist ever.
i sway neither way on the morals of these people but ask yourselves do you always agree with the way your government spends your bread?

Theres no rule that says that you can't fight poverty and have a businness acumen as well. Lets face it, if you were in U2s position you would use your popularity and wealth to do good but not at the cost of it. He is using his talent and popularity to good use unlike many other celebrities. Theres a lot of other celebs you can take potshots at like Paris Hilton who is now in the Guiness Book of World Records for being the most overrated celeb. Haha! Hope this helps.

Arghhh. I hate this band of celebrity morons who are posing as political commentators in their spare time. What is the most grating of it all is that they take incredibly complex issues and reduce them to a catchphrase such as ''Make Poverty History'' then sitting back basking in the knowledge, that due to their political astuteness, they have somehow saved the world.

Pray tell, how does one make ''poverty history?'' I think we should elect Bono to the leadership of this planet so that we can all live in an utopian society with U2s awful music being piped into every room and open space.

And why does he call himself Bono? What a silly person.

Personally, I find U2 the most over-rated band in the world (I wish he would find what he's looking for -- and go away!). I'm no Christian and obviously neither is he, but there is a biblical saying that covers this self-promoting hollow plea - all about the camel through the eye of the needle.
I prefer people to lead by actions rather than words - which is so rare in this world - especially amongst the super rich and the religious brethren.

Because he's a hypocrite. It's a bit rich that all the "Make Poverty History" crowd are millionaires! They COULD make poverty history if they gave away their millions...but no, they want YOU to give away YOUR money. Poverty will never be history. It's totally unrealistic.

Bono is a pompous git, he should stick to music and stop preaching while buying up huge amounts of shares to make himself even more sickeningly rich.

The band U2 has carried out more beneficial than any people to improve expertise. I see that some people have Cotton wool pulled over there eyes. I see the common sense if its authentic, to base themselves in Amsterdam. For why supply the money in sale's tax to a rustic that doesn't want the money. properly carried out is what i say. about time people began to do there area to help others in a lot less fortunate situations. only study what people might want to do if the had one million quid in solutions. maximum might want to spend it on themselves. So yet we see people wondering what he does which includes his personal funds. You adult men favor to envision out your own hearts instead of others. As for united states leaders getting in touch, they attempt to positioned him down because he's putting them to shame for not doing sufficient to help ease the load. Who else has challenged Mr Blair, Mr bush etc? Who helped in band help, and stay help? Get a grip people and commence helping those that want to make a huge difference.

you need to ask him that question directly. he might have his reasons for pulling his funds out of ireland. its good to see someone talking about poverty and helping others to see first hand some of the terrible issues happening around them. i think his finances is his business as far as he does not go against the law.

He wants to avoid paying more tax than he has to, so that he can give more to the needy! Who knows where the money might go if the Government gets it?!
