The Republicans (especially the ones at the top) constantly talk about how poor people need to pull themselves up by the bootstraps, yet they're represented by the likes of George W. Bush, a spoiled rich kid whose father bought his way out of Vietnam and into Yale and Harvard Business School and who had the presidency handed to him on a silver platter in 2000 by his father's friends in the Supreme Court. If anything, don't you think that Bill Clinton better embodies the principle of pulling oneself up by the bootstraps? After all, he doesn't come from a wealthy family, and he actually EARNED his way to Georgetown, Oxford, and Yale Law School. Some may argue that he was a draft dodger, but at least he had a reason. He was a student, whereas Bushy Boy was able to avoid going to Vietnam simply because his dad got him into the Air National Guard, for which he didn't even bother showing up a good deal of the time.

I know that Al Gore also comes from a wealthy family. So do the Kennedys and various other Democrats. However, at least they pass legislation that takes the little person into account and they don't hypocritically preach rugged individualism to us when they've had everything handed to them.

I'm proud to say that I'm a liberal Democrat, but I have to say that I've never been crazy about John Kerry. I only voted for him in 2004, because I hate Bush. In all honesty, I admit that there are also hypocritical Democrats, and there are corrupt members of both parties, but I have to say that the Democrats are the lesser of the two evils.

It's interesting that Kevin W says that Bush's unit could have been called to go to Vietnam at any time. I've actually read that the unit that Bush was in was mostly made up of rich men's sons and athletes whose coaches got them in. The likelihood that Bush's unit would have been sent to Vietnam was very low. Also, I'm not knocking Bush for having rich parents. I'm knocking him for being born with a silver spoon in his mouth and being indifferent to the poor and middle class.

TJ: Yes, some people do get rich by being hard-working and determined. However, Bushy Boy was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Perhaps some of his ancestors got rich through hard work and determination, but Bushy Boy has had everything (even the presidency) handed to him on a silver platter.

Oh boy. Yes its true that Bush along with every other candidate is rich but, you forgot something. How do the rich become rich? Even those who had wealth pass to them had to start from somewhere. Over the years these individuals had the determination to move up in society and become rich. So yes i find it amazing that if street thugs who have nothing but the clothes on their backs, can rise through the ghetto beating all odds at being successful, then why can't others. Its all about determination.
And you must have watch that ill infromed Dan Rather b/c President Bush actually served in Vietnam and did not coward the way Kerry did to his man. Check you facts.
And Kevin W is right. You seriously need to read an autobiography of President Bush and stop with your pathetic tunnel vision.
Check it out.

So why criticize Bush for being rich? Is it maybe b/c you are poor and you want to be like President Bush. When rich folks have children what do you expect them to be poor? No they are going to grow up in a wealthy environment.

The supreme court didn't give it to him....they constantly sent the rulings back to the state of Florida......so, what you are saying, when the door of opportunity opens, Bush should ignore it? He did not make his choice of parents....it just turned out that way.....Bush could have gone to war at any time....they just had to call up the guard unit he was in......Clinton stay over seas when his schooling was up so they wouldn't send him.....and most of the rich were not born that way.....they worked hard for it.....thanks to the dems in their 40 years of ruling the Congress and part of the time the Office of the President.....the kids today think they are owed help from the government, and they are not.....they want to be rich, or at least well off....get off their a$$es and work for it...we all are trying to do......and if you do not mention the investigations, by the journalists, that write these articles, and the hunting down of those that knew he was there when he was supposed to be...then naturally you will not except the truth....and a complete recount, by time-Warner and NY times....showed that Bush won Florida by even more than the original count...granted just a few hundred, but point made

How about John Kerry, who said during the '04 campaign that he would only raise taxes on the wealthiest of Americans, yet when you look at their tax returns, the Kerrys pay a smaller percentage of their income than most. So he wants the evil rich to pony up, except for himself and his wife, of course. Would that also be an example of what you're talking about?

Not so much. No. Considering that John Kerry is richer then George Bush and yet payed less taxes last year then Bush. Ted Kennedy says he's an environmentalist yet blocks a wind farm near his home.
What's amazing is your tunnel vision?
