my guppy just gave birth to about 10 babies. Do they need a lot of room? When can they start reproducing and can they reproduce among themselves even though they are related? And shouldn't the guppy have given birth to about 50 babies...not just 10? (i know for a fact that she does not have any more in her)

It's better to seperate them from the parents. Sometimes the parent will eat the young. They do not really need lots of room. By about 1 mth, they should be able to reproduce and can inter-breed. That's the way of getting a pure breed. This is also how the breeders get a pure breed. You will need to select the ones you want and also seprate the males & females. The female can carry the sprems from the males and hold them for a long time. Therefore good to separate the male & female from young before the "birds & bees" happens. Usually the 1st reproduction will have more babies... while the 2nd or 3rd time will be quite little. Therefore the female that you have may be giving her 2nd or 3rd "litter".

No guppy has ever had 50 babies. 5 - 15 babys depending on the size of the fish.

they will start reproducing themselves automatically!!!!!!!

congratulation ~~!!

ya please seperate the mom and fry, or else ur fry will keep missing .. in mom's stomach ..

normally a healthy fry will grow mature in 2 - 3 months (this a bit depends on how u feed them when they are fry) .. after tat they will start mate themself and then you will find getting more guppies within 6 months, because they mostly get birth every month ~~!!

happy guppying ~~!!

Guppies eat there babies. So, she probably ate most of them. You can prevent this by a breeding box, or plant a lot of plants. They can breed when the males get their colors, and pointed anal fin. Females usually are grey, or have less colors. There anal fins are fan shaped. Also, females get a dark spot by there anal fin when there pregnant. http://guppyplace.tripod.com/Breeding.html
