The opinions of 'celebrities' from la-la-land seem to be valued more because the person is 'more important' and appears to 'affect the population' more than ordinary people.
In fact, the ordinary person is FAR more likely to be better exposed to real life, so the opinion of the ordinary person is more likely to be realistic.

People value the opinions of celebrities over the common man or woman because to many people celebrities are more superior.

This is the result of many years of subliminal programming. Since the birth of television, celebrities have been selling products. Use this toothpaste because this actress does, buy this refrigerator because that actor says it's wonderful. Gee, they couldn't lie to us. This was back when people believed others, celebrities, politicians, etc, etc.
Now, we as a society have learned that these famous people do indeed lie, do get paid to say certain things. But, the subliminal thoughts remain. We have been programmed to believe them. Remember, the current crop of celebrities were also taught this too. So, as a result, they have an inflated view of the value of their own opinions. And so do most people. That's why they pay attention to them.

I don't! I don't read tabloids, watch soaps or buy celebrity-ridden gossip mags, therefore, they have no power over me at all! If I want an opinion, there are plenty of real people I can ask. I don't need the opinion of a half-witted, publicity-seeking non-entity, thank you!

I don't.
Although I would value an expert (eg/ doctor/nurse on medical question) over common man/woman.
