How would the United States Goverment respond to an Iranian Nuclear Missle hitting New York City? What if an Iranian Military Jet was seen flying around US Air Space how would the goverment react? Also, I do believe Iran does have an Air Force.

Well if it was nuclear, and we're talking fission/fusion, not dirty bomb. I would say the US would probably respond in kind with a nuclear strike. The question is where and why.
The best thing the US could do in the current geopolitical situation would be to kill as many people who could potentially disrupt the oil supply in Iran. That means targetting major cities and doing so in a fasion as to not harm the oil infrastructure. So I could see the US using a neutron style bomb or smaller tactical strikes to limit the destruction as much as possible but still killing most of the people.
This strike would be followed up with a full land invasion of Iran to secure the oil pipelines, refineries and drilling platforms. Since the Iranians would have striked first, the US could fight that war without having its hand tied behind its back (like they do in Iraq now.)
In the end it would amount to a huge loss of life on both sides but Iran would have WAY more to lose than the US. This sort of thing would be all the US would need to secure full control of the remaining oil.
The next question you should be thinking is what would China and Russia do? But that's a discussion for another Yahoo answer.

if an Iranian nuclear missile hit anywhere in the United States, city or not, then Iran can kiss their *** goodbye cause their radar screens are gonna be filled with hundreds of green dots and all of them are going to be nuclear WMDs. The result? I think you can figure that out
as for the jet, i'd like to see it be able cross the Atlantic Ocean all the way from Iran without any midair refueling

An iranian jet could never even come close to american airspace for one. But by some reason that they could detonate a nuclear weapon on US soil, it would be acted on with extreme predjudice. Iran would cease to exist as a nation, and we would own all mineral rights that they posessed. If you havent already noticed we are looking for any reason to jump on an oppertunity for free oil. It doesnt matter what city was attacked or how messed up our country is, when attacked it just brings us closer together.

First off, the jet would be blown out of the sky before it got a mile inside the territorial waters.
Secondly, if a nuclear strike occurs on the U.S., you can be sure we will turn the desert into glass.

Complete, unadulterated nuclear destruction. After turning the country into a glass mine we can build a huge Super Walmart with lots of parking. And behind Walmart, we will drill through the glass and take there oil.....

it would not hapen for the following reasons,
1)any country who nuked the u.s.a knows it has just wipped itself out, the missile would be spotted at launch by a spy satellite and 50 would be launched in retaliation before the first one hit the ground,
no-one is stupid enough to kill their own country and this is one of the reasons for democratic countries to have nukes available,,they are the best deterent known to man,
the problems with countries like iran and why govt are concerned is that the people in charge are un elected dictators who maybe just maybe be stupid enough to try their luck and have no thoughts about the retalliation

1. The jet would be blown to bits before it ever got a chance to fly remotely close to the US.
2. Iran wouldn't exist if they ever tried to achieve that and they know this. Take Hiroshima for example. We got bombed so we bombed them. Iran wouldn't do it.

I would hope they would wipe Iran off the globe. As for the jet- they would shoot it down but I don't know if it would be in time or not.

Well, seeing how all these scenarios are very very unlikely....seeing how they do not have a missile that could hit us, and any plane would be tracked down before it got to the USA shores...but seeing how this is fantasy....they would shoot down the plane, and blow Iran off the face of this earth

well you know how us is they would automatically nuce the whole iren country and they send jets in the air immediatly if an uregistered aircraft was flying around the sky
