I generally use a lint free cloth and some isopropylalcohol (Isopropanol) to clean my monitor, laptop screen, and plasma tv screen. It cleans well and is very economical. I have been using this for a number of years now.
Isopropylalcohol is generally available in shops that sell chemicals.

I usually put vinegar on a coffee filter and wipe the screen clean. Vinegar is an excellent cleaner for glass and computers, and does not have harsh chemicals, but it still removes finger prints, smudges, etc... Coffee filters do NOT leave lint when cleaning glass or screens with them. I use this combo on my monitors, my tv's, and my windows.

I use a glasses-cleaning spray and paper hankies to clean all my screens, including TV, CRT and TFT monitors. It works really well.

Don't use the screen cleaning wipes they sold in supermarkets. It leaves dirt all over the screen.

I just read in my manual for my new plasma screen TV... it says to use a soft lint free cloth and wipe clean. If it's really dirty, use a MILD detergent solution, soak the cloth, ring it out to remove excess water and wipe clean followed by a dry lint free cloth. Just use two cotton wash clothes.

Use a dampened lint-free cloth. Don't scrape and don't soak it. If you just have dust there are little velour brushes that wipe dust off as fast as you slide them over the screen.
