Old music, old loves, old ways, and old philosophical questions all have ONE thing in common--they wax poetic about memories, which are one of the most important mechanisms humans have to compare, relate, and LEARN from.
They were apparently simpler times, and in some poignant way, seemingly more honest times.
Old philosophical questions are not quite so much fun ---until you understand that with every new AGE, the basis for the answer of philosophical questions actually changes, because most answers relate to contemporary conditions we live in, moreso than the past.

Well, you know the saying 'Out with the old and in with the new' in a lot of cases that is good, as improvements and advancements can make life easier for us. Sometimes, doing things the 'old way' is much better. For example, they used to teach kids to read and write in a certain way but then some do-gooders decided that a new method will be much better. So they changed it and produced a large number of illiterate people as a result. Now some schools are going back (or have gone back) to the old ways...

Old is defined by the persons given perspecive. Personally I consider old to be anything that came from the time around my youth. Which is an intresting thought, because I do have a fondness for music from back then.
I wouldn't necessarily say that the old ways are better. I would say that they are more comfortable, and people find themselves more ready to go back to the tried and true, than to branch out and try something they haven't done/heard/seen before.
It's easier to stick to what you know, than to branch out and discover new things. On a whole, people tend to do this. They put themselves in a neverending cycle of spinning around the same things their entire lives instead of breaking from that track and forging out into the unknown.
So it is my opinion that the old may be better at times, but we would never really know it if we don't break out of our self-imposed molds and take a leap into something new.

It will be fun, but you have to get the right people to appreciate it. I will, I believe I am old enough to enjoy old music, old loves and I like the old ways better. Youngsters might not have enough experiences to understand the old philosophical stuff.

Some old things are better than the new (like music) but most new things are better than the old. Some people just have trouble understanding new things (like my parents and anything that has a battery) and they assume, because they can not understand it, that the older things are better. I wouldn't be surprised if there were people who said banging rocks together was better than using matches to start a fire when they were first invented.

I love the old things because they make me realise what it is that I like in new things. Through growing older you put more time behind you than in front of you and your familiarity with the world around you grows, thus the old is just a part of the new.

It's funny you should say that. I just heard a comediene making a joke this morning about a new song that contains the lyrics, "You got me shaking and quaking trying to get to you and that monkey." I think if you heard the rest of the lyrics you could surmise what he means by "monkey." I don't know about other women but I don't find the reference to my genitals as "monkey" too much of a turn on. What ever happened to the days when you got a little romance before someone even started to think about the monkey? Not to mention that song by the Black Eyed Peas talkin' about her bumps and her humps....!

I think older music reminds everyone of a time when everything was simpler. Maybe not better, just simpler. I think everyone likes to think about the "old days". But I don't think, if given the chance, many people would actually go back.

They are not fun but they are interesting for some other reasons. Is good to know some things to make a kind of balance in our modern world.
