The ancient Egyptians built pyramids as tombs for the pharaohs and their queens. The pharaohs were buried in pyramids of many different shapes and sizes from before the beginning of the Old Kingdom to the end of the Middle Kingdom.
There are about eighty pyramids known today from ancient Egypt. The three largest and best-preserved of these were built at Giza at the beginning of the Old Kingdom. The most well-known of these pyramids was built for the pharaoh Khufu. It is known as the 'Great Pyramid'.
Man fears Time, yet Time fears the Pyramids.
Here are some excellent sites that should give you all the information you need for a geography project.

I think the person who answered first is a little confused--there are no pyramids in the Valley of the Kings--the Pyramids were built during the Old Kingdom, around 3,000-2,500 B.C., and pharoahs were buried in the Valley of the Kings later, at least partly because they realized man-made pyramids were easily looted, and partly because there is a mountain there which is pyramid-shaped, so it could be used as a "pyramid" for all of them.
The first pyramid was the Step Pyramid at Sakkarah (sp?). Before this, Egyptians were buried under long flat clay markers (mastabas). The Step Pyramid was simply a stack of these. The next pyramid, for the same pharoah, was called the Bent Pyramid. They got about half done and realized the angle was too steep, so there would be more weight than the ground under it could bear, so they changed the angle, giving it a bent look. They finally got it right with the Red Pyramid, still at Sakkarah, and still for that pharoah, which was the first true pyramid.
The Pyramids at Giza were next. The Pyramid of Cheops is the "Great Pyramid,", and the others are for later members of his family. Some thought originally they were built by slaves, but new evidence has come out of a city nearby for the workers. They were well-fed, well cared for, and buried near the pyramids. If they had been slaves, they would not have been buried so near the pharoah. It was more like a public works project.
The Pyramids at Giza would not have looked the way they do today. They were covered with white limestone, and the Great Pyramid had a golden top. That's why the very top is slightly flat--that's where the gold top was, and naturally, it was looted.
There are three REASONABLE theories on how they were built. First, that they hauled the stones up using pullies and levers. More likely, they used a ramp system. Some say it was one long ramp, but that would take more material than the pyramid itself. Dr. Zahi Hawass, who is the Director of Antiquities for Egypt and head of the Giza Plateau, thinks they used ramps which wound around the pyramids. There is still the remnants of a ramp along the side of one of them.
Hope this helps.

Try and go to the public library nearest to your neighbourhood.
Look for the pyramid in the book of encyclopaedias.
What you want is all inside it .
Go and read it to fill up your data bank.
Words that you don't know write it out and search it from the dictionary.

there are some in the valley of kings.
they have 5 sides (you forgot to count the bottom too right?)
usually come to a point at the top.
they have stuff inside generally.
like mummies, cryptographs, food for the inhabitants.
maybe a croc or two if built too close to the waters edge.
anything else?
