While playing it safe may minimize the chances we take in life, a play it close to the vest approach also minimizes our opportunities to make a difference — or even make history. Sooner or later we all must make a decision on the direction our lives will take; will we be safe and good or will we roll the dice and take a chance on being great?
And while taking a chance may ultimately backfire and leave us penniless, heartbroken or downtrodden for a short period of time; it can never break us. The winning spirit we hold deep down inside of ourselves will eventually prevail if we’ll just give it an opportunity to do so. There’s no doubt about it, the only way you’ll ever discover the best life has to offer is to take a chance worth taking — and that’s taking a chance on yourself!

Being practical in career and money matters is fine but is disastrous in human relations which needs a lot more of caring and sharing. What do you mean by "too practical"? Life is not only logic or practicality. There are many other emotions like love, creativity etc. You should know when to be practical. If you are practical all the time you will sound like an economics or physics text book. Many discoveries and inventions were achieved because people thought of impractical things. By being "too practical" you are limiting your personality and enjoyment in life.

Yes! Be a little impulsive from time to time, spontanaeity is rich in rewards. I once drove across the country just to see the Pacific and I've never regretted it. I had no money, busked for change met a ton of really cool and interesting friends (some for life) and it was by far one of the best experiences of my life. Don't be afraid to do something impractical, it just might change your life. Besides, the only thing being practical got anyone was 2.3 kids, a picket fence and a small town life with little excitement. Dare to dream.

Not harmful, but I think being too practical can cause you to miss out on fun things that you might have actually enjoyed. Smelling the roses is not a practical activity, but people should stop and do it once in a while anyway.

Yes, if you are always being practical and making shelves and fixing cars and putting up wardrobes etc, then you do run the risk of hitting your thumb with a hammer.
So, in answer to your question- yes being too practical can cause harm. But I wouldn't worry too much as your thumb will fix itself.

Surely its harmful.. then there will not have love around. People who are practical goes for money instead of love. If they are too practical there will not have love in their life, don't you think its harmful? Love make a major part of our life, thats the reason why we are living. There must be a balance.

I think that being too practical in life can make you a very boring person. Sometimes, you just have to let your hair down and have fun...not worry about the logistics of it all.

The great debate of form over function. Is it better that we do things for style points, or should we do things just to get them done. Why not do it…but do it with style? Practicality can have good form as well…and things do need to get done…

NOT JUST HARMFUL, EXTREMELY HARMFUL.
The world is not supposed to follow your lead, and nobody likes something not fitting their expectations or thought process.
Being too practical is like calling a blind person blind. Shouldnt it be harmful, ethically?
