Im from England and have lived in the US for 10 yrs. This is a tough question but here goes:
The problem is their sports stars are all from US football (NFL) basketball or baseball. The big money is in those sports and sad as it may seem thats what a lot of parents focus on.
They do however have the most dedicated and remarkable youth football(soccer) programs I have ever seen which is why their women won the world cup not long ago.
Finally unless you are raised on football (soccer) there is juts way to many domestic sports to focus on.
Oh and their recent world cup outing wont help matters either.

Because they don't win the big tournaments. Americans like to win, if they don't win, they're not interested. They try to make the excuse of low scoring games, and I don't think that's a valid excuse. American Football can be just as low scoring, a 14-7 game in American Football is the same damn thing as a 2-1 game in what Americans call soccer. As for people saying it's boring; these are the same people that sit and watch baseball games where "athletes" (and I use the term loosely) stand around most of the time, or golf, which is by far the most boring game in the world. That being said, I don't mind watching baseball (live), and golf has some pretty cool shots at times (not to mention it's great to watch on tv when I want a good nap). I'm a fan of just about all sports.

Because people here can't appreciate a good thing. They're obsessed with their "football". It's crazy. Though with the logic that Americans give for not liking football (low scoring being one of the big ones) I think to myself, "If we only awarded 1 point for a touchdown, would they stop watching their bastardized verson of rugby?"

i thought there were a lot of americans interested in the world cup...a lot of ppl i know in my area were watching or paying attention to it in some way or another. but, maybe it just depends on where you live. it definitely though, was not as big here as in the rest of the world, obviously. we've got football and basketball and baseball and then down the list we've got soccer. so, obviously not as many ppl in america watched it. but maybe someday it will be bigger.

You mean people born in the U.S. because Americans are all the people in north and south america.
If is like that here's your answer: First of all people born in the U.S. who don't like football/soccer are really ignorant.
Second of all they are big losers and suckers!!
They don't know what a great sport is.

Simple truth is that they cannot dominate football (soccer), so its of not much significance to them. Americans only like winners!
