It sounds like you just need to run the set up software from Comcast. There should be a disk for set up

Dell is a poor computer. They have the worst customer service too. Comcast requires a plug-in type software and a dedicated com port. ask some one at Comcast. Is the @Home/Comcast software installed?

Check with Comcast. There might be some software that you need to install or you may have to change the internet setting on the Dell to be compatible with Comcast modem.

Maybe you need to download some software or drivers from Comcast onto your new PC.

What is it doing? Where does it stop working. All PCs are the same in software. If you had the backup Windows cd then I would reformat your computer so you can get all your Friends edits out of the computer and start new.

I doubt that your internet service won't work on the new computer. But you may have to call the cable company's support line and have them reset the modem or something. They're usually very friendly if you call in and tell them your situation and can resolve it fairly quickly.

first of all make sure you have the wires plugged in properly, make sure the network card in the PC is working, reboot the cable modem and the PC, and if that doesn't work, call comcast.
