During the creation of the Earth, more and more 'stuff' came and clung to the earth, adding mass. Over time this mass (because it was also circling the Sun) had a spin imparted to it. The reason the Earth isn't 'straight', well, it spins like a top and thus the apex of the top will create a circle (any top does this)

The moon causes the earth to spin. If we did not have the moon, the earth would roll about uncontrollably and our seasons as we know them now would be all helter skelter. Hot one minute, cold the next. It does spin straight, you're just on an angle.
