I'm an African-American comic book publisher, and I've been told that because I'm Black and have Black characters that, I won't be successful. I don't believe that, but I want an honest world opinin

Absolutely not. Good Artwork first, Good writing Second. Nothing else matters. When Marvel does a cross-over event like the current Civil War, I read every cross-over book. I am wrapped up in the event. I just each book on those two criteria and nothing else. So far Black Panter wedding Storm has been one of my favorite books in this event. There is a black superhero marrying another black superhero who is also a woman. All of that is unimportant. What matters is art and story.

The sad but honest truth is that black stuff does not sell as well as the white counterpart. This is true for movies and even more so with literature unless you are writing a sista-girlfriend novel.

Will a white automatically pick up a black comic? Maybe, but not as a first or second thought. Whites may assume that they can't relate to it. As for blacks, I know there are some blacks who read comics but in the age of this media frenzy, the reading audience has dwindled significantly.

In my opinion, it won't sell as well as other comics. However, I think that it would be successful to get it out into the public because perhaps if more people take chances with these things, they may become more accepted.

I think a lot of that would depend on what you write & draw. If you have black characters, great. Really, I'd say you would have a harder time making it if you were putting out gay characters than black characters. However, if you only have black characters, you may risk alienating other potential viewers. Also, if you try to use the comics to promote anti-white racist propaganda, you may hurt your chances as well. Don't be afraid to try to create some characters who are white, or possibly even from other ethnic backgrounds. That has helped Marvel & DC remain on top of the game, because they have characters who appeal to various readers. Remember that you want as large a customer base as possible without running off your main base. If you do that, I believe you could create several successful titles, & add new black superheroes to the ranks of comic book legends.

I don't think race really makes that big of a deal when it comes to comic books, I mean look at Black Panther, he is one of the biggest memebers of the Avengers, and Falcon is pretty big,and both are black, and as stated before, Storm. Also before Al Simmons or Spawn got burnt to a crisp he was black. As far as writers/creators go, I don't see why it would matter to even the most racist of people, it isn't like they can see you when they are reading th comic...What are some of the comics you are putting out? I'll check some out.

I have no idea what race the writers, artists, editors or publishers are unless they say so, as you just did. And I have enjoyed both black and white characters, Asians and Hispanic, humanoid and protoplasmic blobs, purple, green, striped and polka dotted. I read for enjoyment. If the story is good and the art is good, I'll read it. It doesn't matter to me who wrote it. I will generally look at the first couple issues of a new title, unless the cover art is really poor. The playing field is level, man! Good luck!

For me, the answer is "Yes". I am a light skinned Black woman in my fifties. I have read comics for decades and will continue. My two favorite characters are Storm and Wonder Woman, need I say more.
