I work at a preschool. During the last two hours that the school is open (from 4 to 6), I work with a girl around my age who is completely lazy. She is always giving me trouble about vacuuming or mopping, even though it's been explained to her that I'm not able to do those things -- I'm in my third trimester of pregnancy and not physically able.

At LEAST three days a week, she makes up an excuse to leave work early, around 5:30 or so when there are still kids in the classroom. She's "so tired", or "feels really sick", or "didn't take her break today" or some other lame excuse all the time. She only works part-time, five hours a day!

It's really getting on my nerves, especially since yesterday I had to be somewhere right after work and wanted to leave a few minutes early, but she "made plans to leave early, too." Total BS.

How can I tell this girl that I'm sick of it without being a beeyotch?

I had the same problem when I was a preschool teacher and I documented each incident on my calendar. I then had a conference with the aide and showed her the calendar and gave her a written warning. She was told that if, for any reason, she was going to be late, not finish her work or would leave early then she was responsible to give advance notice so that a sub could be arranged. Also, we were assigned a time to take our breaks each day. If we chose not to take the break at that time, then we lost it. (Of course if there was an emergency or legitimate reason for not taking the break at the appointed time then that did not apply).

One reason this was successful to me is that our individual job duties were clearly defined and written down. When hired we each signed a copy of the duties. In your case, being pregnant, you or your supervisor could write up a temporary amendment to the job duties and have it signed so there is no question as to who is to do what.

It is so important to document and follow through because the kids deserve great, dependable, competent teachers.

(By the way, the gal I worked with was fired because I showed my supervisor the calendar and written warning and things did not change.)

Stay cool, remember that you are pregnancy. If you have the ability to sack her, please do so. If not, report her, but before you need to have some supporting stuff like a record of her laziness (come in late, break too often, leaving early and stuff that she suppose to do, but didn't do, etc...). Perhaps you can come out with a duty time table, tht will support your report if she did not follow them. Take Care.

Well first of all remember you are pregnant. Do not let this girl get your blood boiling. I would simply have a check list made up of what has to be done by each person when closing. Then I would do your part and then let her do hers. Otherwise contact the boss and explain your frustrations.

You are giving in too much.Be firm and do what you are supposed to do.You may politely complain to the boss.

Not your place to confront her. You need to speak to the director of the preschool.

Dont take much tension. It'll be hard on ur baby. Just tell her " HEY LAZY BUM! GET UR BUTT Here and work!
