Neither. He has not officially retired. But, he is not even listed on Kansas City's depth chart for running backs. He had been sitting out due to neck and head injuries.

News: Team president and general manager Carl Peterson said Wednesday that Holmes (neck/head) had seen his doctors, but they weren't comfortable with Holmes going through full contact, the team's official site reports.

From everything I am reading, he wants to play but KC won't risk putting him out there. They have Larry Johnson, and if Holmes gets hurt they will end up having to carry his salary against the cap. My guess this will end by the start of the season with Priest retiring or KC cutting him.

The great Priest Holmes is on the "PUP'' list, which stands for Physically unable to Perform list.

They dont' expect him to play but Holmes is being all benefit of the doubt because he's been such a great player. He has a degenerative hip problem.

People forget that he was in the same backfield as Ricky Williams for one year at the university of Texas.

He is not playing this year but I have not heard a definitive statement about retirement.

I live in Baltimore and got to see him play before he was a superstar. Based on what I know of him, he is not likely to make a decision like that until he has to, or a doctor tells him he is done. His injuries pretty mcuh preclude him playing this year, but he may be thinking he can rehab them and see how he feels before making a final call.

Again, I am basing this on the fact that I have not heard an official pronouncement on his status.

No, he has not retired as of yet. He is still on the KC roster but is not playing due to injury. He is weighing his options. He would like to play again, but his body may have other ideas. Backup to LJ this year is Bennett and Brown.
