I mean, if he really DOESN'T hold those views about Jewish people, as he claimed, this would be greatly in his favour, wouldn't it? Surely it's better than just hoping the whole thing will disappear.

Interesting question - even more interesting that it drags out all the Gibson apologists from the woodwork. I suppose your point is that the whole matter is being quietly forgotten, and our general complacency about such things. But then Mel's never been one to show much respect for history.

But I wouldn't have bothered answering if you hadn't attracted such a pack of dullards. 1) He pled No Contest to the drink driving charge - there wasn't a charge of antisemitism on the books. Since when did being drunk make it okay? Surely that's when we reveal our true feelings? 2) Let it go/Let it rest. Well, okay. Simon Wiesenthal should have learned a lesson or two from you people. And 9/11 was almost five years ago. Isn't it time we just let it go, even extended the hand of friendship to Osama and see if we can work something out? Let bygones be bygones. Or is that only if it's someone else's bygones? 3) Gibson is a ROMAN Catholic, and it's not surprising that when they adopted Christianity they quietly forgot that Christ was executed in a country under Roman occupation, under Roman law, by a method of execution that was particularly Roman, and then told everyone it was the Jews that did it! I suppose he's just swallowed the whole package. 4) How many of us can say that we've never accidentally built concentration camps for the purpose of annihilating an entire race, especially after one glass of wine too many? These things happen so easily, after all!

I suppose a serious answer to your question could be, yeah, he could clear this up right now if he took a polygraph. But clearing things up isn't the American way. We'd just like to pretend something didn't happen and be hypocrites about it.

I see where you're going with this question. But I think it's best to let it go. Let's hope the man didn't mean the crap he said. If we leave it in his favor that works for the public. You don't want a few thousand crazy Mel Gibson fans turning anti-Semitic just 'cause he is. Celebrities have a responsibility to "do the right thing" as they are watched and mirrored by many. That's not a good thing I know. But it's the way it is. It's ugly and I say we let it rest.

If a chiuaua arrested him , the drunken tirade would have been about dogs . The drive-by media has a new interest with the Ramsey case now .They tried to make Mel Gibson into a man on a platform with a vendetta -instead of a pissed off drunk getting arrested .How many times have you put stock in the words of a drunk ?

While I'm not defending anti-semetic remarks of beliefs, there is a fair-sized slug of organized people in the world that hold a grudge. They are called Catholics and other Chrisitians and they hold the Jew Responsilbe for killing Jesus.

This does not make it right, but when you're raised that way, as he was certainly exposed to it in one way or another as a Catholic, then it's easy to slip.

Some Christian churchs are making ameds with the Jews, some are not and retaining their Orthodox view of who the "bad guy" is.

Does all this crap really matter? I mean seriously... we all have our own opinions, why can't stars? He didn't do it on the news or in concert like the Dixie Chicks so it's really nothing more than his personal opinion brought on by a drunken stupor. How many of us can say we have never said a cross word about a person or people? A "me" answer to that question constitues a liar, lol! No one is perfect and we've all made mistakes!

Wellllllllllllllllll...

...I think Mel the Mouth should either shut up completely and quietly (if possible) slip away to hide under a rock somewhere, at least for awhile...

...or as soon as possible he should go on the biggest talk show on TV and cough up that hairball caught in his throat.

He plead no contest. Therefore he knows what he said and can't deny it. He got 3 years probation. Which means he isn't supposed to be drinking. Let's see what happens from here on out. Let it go. HE WAS DRUNK!
