I'm attending a weekend course at the Embassy Suites Hotel at MCI (7640 NW Tiffany Springs Parkway) and I will NOT have a rental car. IS there any way to get to Kansas City's "downtown" area to see sights, and are there cabs at night to take me back?

Also, are there any restaurants within walking distance of the hotel?

A taxi will cost a bit of money and as for the sights of downtown... there is the River market district (Nice but small), Westport (nightlife and dining), and the Plaza (upscale shopping and dining). "Downtown" KCMO is a pit with a ton of construction going on right now.

If you want to see something a little closer to your hotel... Go to Zona Rosa. It's new and has bunch of shops and nice restauraunts. My personal favorite is the Hereford House (steak house). Zona Rosa is about 4 miles away from Embassy Suites.

As far as restaurants near you... last time I was in that area I was driving pretty fast due to the overwhelming population of low lifes walking around the streets. The area is semi industrial office area. However, there is a nice bar and restauraunt within the hotel.

Good luck and don't walk around "Downtown" at night by yourself!!!

There are aways taxis. Also, some motels offer "courtesy" rides to and from the downtown area. Check that out.

Good luck!!
