Divide the participating people into equal numbers. Give them a certain time frame...say 2 hours, 4 hours..whatever. All meet back at the ending time at a designated place. The team with the most things collected wins!

Have them collect items from all over town to prove they were actually there. Some items would be: a pen from a hotel, (if it is a Doubletree hotel - make them get a cookie!), a menu from a restaurant, a business card from the local bowling alley......etc.

Possibly involve a Polaroid camera and have them take pictures of a building that has ....say....red and yellow on it or surrounding it. Could be the local McDonald's or a brick school with a school bus in front of it, or any other business with red and yellow somewhere in the public eye.

Find an item in the local museum that has some history written about it. Tell the contestants to copy.........say......the 3rd sentence in the first paragraph. They will have to search the museum to find it.

In the local library - have them find a book in the reference section. That way you know it won't be checked out and gone when they get there - that wouldn't be fair. Now - of course, you have already gone and identified the book you want them to find. Ask them to list the color of the cover to make sure they found the right book.

Things like that........

I played this a long time ago...

make up a list of items 10-20 depending on how long you want the game to last. When I played it seems like you had to be back in a certain amount of time so we were rushing around like crazy people trying to find at much of the stuff as we could....

Determine the time limit and designate a place to meet back up. Hand out the lists and whoever has the most items wins. If there is more than one person with all them items you'll have to think up a tie breaker.

I know a couple items from our list were
a barbie doll
sprite can

(you couldn't go out and buy any of the items)

I hope this helps.

Have a list of several items they are to look for. Comb, old toothbrush, handkerchief, paper tablet, etc, anything.
Divide into teams. Each team gets one section of town, NW, NE, SW, or SE to search for things.
Meet back at an appointed time to see who has the most.

I am at the beginning stages of organizing this for our neighborhood too. Some other ideas I have are things like, getting the name of the minister at the church by the fountain(Whatever your clue/loc'n may be), the opening and closing hours of the pub with a crowned man, cost of entry to "x" museum/sports venue, etc. Name of the boat docked at "X", Bus/train/boat departure times and ticket prices from certain locations, color of the door where the "X" lives (IE famous landmark, notable home, etc.), specific info. from a gravestone in a certain location. You need to go and get/give cryptic clues for the places suggested above. Hope this helps you to think in another direction - not just tangible clues to get. Hope it is tons of fun for you all.
