It's all about how you remember.

Why not remember and be happy.

A general state of happiness or sadness is for most people in the UK a choice they make in dealing with life's ups and downs. I know a person who, given the choice between losing a persistent miserable attitude or losing a partner, made a remarkable positive change that amazed everyone who didn't know the reason!

To dwell on a sad memory and relive the sadness interminably is either the result of self-indulgence or chronic depression, the latter being out of the control of the sufferer.

To have had an excellent memory and then realise you are losing it, now that is sadness.

This is kind of a "trick question", as it's hard to compare the end result and not conclude that it's better to be happy than sad. Of course, we3 would rather be happy.. But, if you're talking about something akin to an 'eternal sunshine of the spotless mind', I don't believe that you can live in a fool's paradise where you block out negative experiences.

To me, it's about how we process our life's experiences. We don't need to dwell on adversity, but we do need to sometimes feel pain, learn from mistakes, deal with adversity, etc. We can't simply forget; we need to remember and benefit from that knowledge.

Forget and be happy definitely. No one should ever be sad. Even when thinking about loved ones that have passed away always let the goods times outweigh the fact that they are no longer with you if you have to be sad allow your self 10 minutes and then snap out of it. Life is to short to be glum.

If it is about a love one who has died, I choose to remember and sometimes I am feel sad but I then choose to be happy by focusing my attention on other love ones. Sometimes, I think how the one who died would think of the other love ones or situations I am in and it makes me happy.

Depends on what you are forgetting - if it was a lesson learned, then no, I'd rather remember so that I can be happy by not making the same mistake again.
