In my experience, I discovered the hard way that you can never go back. If it didn't work first time, it will never work.
He'll always cheat, and she can't accept that, so its a pointless exercise.

She is clearly bonkers.... but it seems to happen all the time. As her friend, you should be advising her not to do it, even if she doesn't want to hear what you are trying to tell her. Be kind, but persistent.
