In Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children, who was that girl who died?

Question

The girl Cloud is so trashed up about? Who is she?!
The movie was really uber and all. But unless you've played the videogame, i don't think you'll understand the movie 100%...
Any FF7 gamer out there care to enlighten me?

her names aeris and sephiroth stabbed her right throuh the stomach with his long sword. its really upsetting when u watch it on the game. she was praying at the time. cloud blames himself because he didnt come and save her in time . shes also the girl who cloud appears in the field with on the film , and the girl at the door at the end of the film. actually , that old abandned church where cloud walks through was where she came. thats the only place where flowers grow , i think because aeris kees them alive because , i dont know how , but i think shes water. yeah so hope that helped x

Aeris Gainsborough

A beautiful 22 year old, Aeris is a bright spot in the middle of a
dark and dreary town. While selling flowers near AVALANCHE'S
first target, Aeris' life was forever altered after a chance meeting
with Cloud. Because of her mysterious background, Shinra has
pursued her for most of her life. Now she must fight against those
who would enslave her and destroy what she holds most dear.

Aeris is the closest xharacter Final Fantasy VII has to a dedicated
magic user. Her physical attacks are fairly weak but she posesses
great skill with Materia and its various forms. Due to this odd balance,
you should put her in your back line and load her down with Materia.
Let Aeris devote her energies to spell casting while her teammates
concentrate on inflicting physical damage. This also takes advantage
of her defensive based Light Breaks.

Her name is Aeris, she was one of the playable characters used in the computer game Final Fantasy VII up until about half way into the game, when she is killed by Sephiroth as she is praying for Holy (A Mataria used in the game...don't get me started lol its a spell) and Sephiroth falls from the sky and pierces her, killing her instantly.

This moment is one of the most memorable moments in video game history for anyone who knows their gaming onions and has been reapeated over and over again in the years.
