Scan all your computers for Virus and Spyware. If you computers are flooding the network they will lock up the DLink.
I had a similar problem with my Linksys and it turn out my file server was infected. Then it started happening again because computers outside the firewall were flooding me with traffic. I upgraded the firmware and it fixed the problem.
The following are possibilities why you router is locking up:
• A large amount of traffic may lock the router up. Disable any broadcast protocols or unused protocols such as NetBEUI and IPX/SPX.
• Disable UPnP(TM) if not being used on both your computer (ME or XP) and on the router (Tools - Misc).
• Check the log on your router. Is it showing a large amount of traffic? If coming from 1 IP address, you may want to use the IP Filter to block that user.
• Check the log settings and uncheck some of the items the router will report.
• Check your firewall and virtual server settings on the router. Too many may degrade performance of the router.
• Upgrade firmware at http://support.dlink.com/downloads. If you have the latest version, flash it again.
• Perform a hard reset on the router and reconfigure. With the unit powered on, use a paperclip and hold down the reset button for 10-15 seconds. Release and wait about 20 seconds. DO NOT power off while holding the reset button.
If the router continues to lock up, especially more than once a day, then please return to point of purchase or contact our RMA department.

well the major thing is that you are using a DLINk not saying that they are bad but i have had the best luck and no problems is with a linksys. I dont think it has to do with them reseting the dns servers because i am pretty sure that my isp has problems with the dns servers and i still have no problems. I would check to make sure that you have config the router properly and then i would check to see if there is a firmware upgrade for your router or if you have upgrade the firmware then i would reset the router to default.

Sounds like your Internet Service Provider might be having some problems with their DNS servers. Give them a call to see if they're in the process of changing them out. The new ones would have a different IP address and the only way for your router to recognize them would be a reset. Also, verify their IP addresses with what is showing on you router and system.
Run the CMD command and execute IPCONFIG /ALL at the DOS prompt. Scroll down and you'll see the references to their servers, Gateway, etc.

3 reasons
1.your Internet Service Provider(ISP) server is working well to ensure you a good connection.
2. The original firmware is not working properly. You can find a new one on dlink website.
3. Incompatiblity between the router and the modem.
