Everyone is created in God's image, even gay men. Gay men aren't caused, they are not gay by choice, it is not a mental illness nor is it genetic. It just is, accept it and get over it.

Thank you for the question.

People are almost certainly homosexual because of genetics. There is a great deal of scientific evidence that it is inborn. Beyond scientific evidence there is anecdotal evidence.

The fruit fly study is actually fairly conclusive. But the pheremonal and eye blink studies are also compelling. I've included links below for those that are interested. Beyond that, research increasingly suggests that at least for males, Xq28 is the crucial gene. I am saddened by this, because I believe that once it is proven, gay people will be wiped out -- and I think that is sad, because given the number of species in which homosexuality exists (see Dr. Bruce Bagemihl's book "Biological Exuberance" from St. Martin's Press) I think it serves a purpose, and has been evolutionarily preferred. The recent Italian study by Andrea Camperio-Ciani and colleagues pretty clearly shows both how and why a gene or gene set causing homosexuality, particularly in males - would survive and be preferred evolutionarily.

In addition to scientific evidence is the anecdotal evidence. I never in my life had any sexual feeling for a female -- nor any romantic feelings. I have had romantic feelings for other males since 8. I figured out it was sexual at 11 and came out at 14. I never felt anything for girls, neither do other gay males I know. Some boys manage to suppress it for a time, but when it comes out they admit to having always had the feelings. Likewise for bisexuals, although bisexuals always have feelings for both, and therefore are capable of choice -- for real. Gays are no more capable of choice than straights are.

There is nothing either wrong or unnatural about being homosexual. Enjoy the links -- and think about the gay people you know. While some, particularly younger ones, may be risk takers or may be into drugs --- think about the young straight men you know -- how many of them are risk takers -- or into drugs? It's gender and age far more than sexuality. Others are, I would bet, settled, calm, caring and successful.

The only thing being gay does is change who you sleep with. No one chooses it however, no one is driven to "that path." It is simply natural and normal for some people.

I suspect that you are asking this question because you are gay and wish that you were not. I am sorry that you feel that way. It is a silly way to feel. You are what you are, and life can be, and is, wonderful for gays as well as for straights. E-mail me if you want to or need to have a listening ear or someone to talk to who won't judge you.

Kind regards,

Reynolds Jones

in one way, i must come to Greg's defense. What is it about this website that make people phrase things awkwardly? and spelling? I know how to spell quite well (I have a BA in English), but I swear Yahoo Answers brings out the worst in my fingers. and it doesn't always let me fix the spelling once I see what I did wrong.

Anywho, the cause of some folks being gay has yet to be nailed down, but recent studies point towards in utero hormone exposure, evidenced by most gay men having been the 2nd or later male foetus in their mother's womb. You want to prevent homosexuality, abort all but the first male child.
Being the 2nd male child in my family, and gay, I'm not a fan of that plan.

How is gay men caused? is that your question? Were not part of a science elaborate of cause and effect. Nothing was caused for the effect of homosexuality.

Humans being part of the animal kingdom, it is natural to be attracted for sexual preferences. As with other animals, there is homosexuality. Humans are no different. The only difference is that we can voice our differences, and then there are some that can voice thier hate too.

As for "reddevil's" remark, were you given the choice when you were about to lose your virginity to whom you can lose it to? I don't think that was part of the lifes SAT's!!

I do not understand your question completely; but I believe you mean; "is it caused by someone or something that happens in a persons life to make him or her gay, right"? If that is the case, I believe its not caused by an illness or inherited. It is just one person's preference of what they desire in a companionship. If one person is a girl and wants to be with with another girl, then she has picked that lifestyle and the same goes for the man. I prefer to be with men and not ladies. Some people will date only black people, while others pick only Hispanic,Chinese, Whites, etc! It just depends on who your attracted to. I am not an expert, but I hoped this has helped you.

If you are concerned you may be gay, and you are not comfortable with the fact you want this, and you are searching for a reason to exist as a homosexual and be comfortable. Well my friend i ask you pray with me now, say this, "In the name of Jesus Christ help now with all concerned." You can also see my website below for some causes, but to shorten this for you, it is a choice, though many children are influenced and mislead because they do not understand.

Once the question, "What causes heterosexuality", you'll have the answer to what causes homosexuality.

Personally, I believe it's genetic and/or hormonal in nature (operative word: NATURE). Studies are pointing to this on a more frequent basis.

Best Wishes!

The same way a straight man is 'caused', by birth.

Some people, like me, is lucky enough to be born gay, though the majority seem to be born straight. I do not know why people are born straight, I am trying to figure this out.

To arrive at the gay mean you add up all the gay people and divide by the total number. This is the arithmetic gay mean.
